Job Overview

A manufacturing company is hiring a Surface Grinder Machinist for a first-shift, contract-to-hire opportunity in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. This role performs precision surface grinding and OD/ID grinding operations while maintaining tight tolerances according to customer drawings and quality specifications.

Shift: 5:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Pay: $30–$35 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot precision grinding equipment.

  • Perform surface grinding and OD/ID grinding to required specifications.

  • Maintain tolerances as tight as ±0.0001 inch.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T requirements.

  • Complete first-piece inspections and required quality documentation.

  • Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, inspection equipment, and digital optical measuring tools.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and support 5S and housekeeping standards.

  • Follow established safety, quality, and operating procedures.

  • Stand, stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant precision grinding or machining experience.

  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting grinding equipment.

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Ability to use precision measuring and quality-control tools.

  • Ability to hold tight tolerances of ±0.0001 inch.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently.

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Okamoto surface grinders.

  • Experience with Studer OD/ID grinders.

  • Experience with digital optical measuring equipment.

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance and 5S practices.
