Precision Logistics information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a precision logistics specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Precision Logistics Specialist, you need expertise in supply chain management, inventory control, and process optimization, often supported by a degree in logistics or operations management. Familiarity with logistics management software (like SAP or Oracle), transportation management systems, and relevant industry certifications (such as APICS or Six Sigma) is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent organizational and communication skills make professionals stand out in this field. These competencies are crucial for ensuring efficient, accurate, and cost-effective movement of goods in complex supply chains.

What is precision logistics?

Precision logistics is a specialized approach to managing supply chains and delivery operations with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and real-time data. It involves using technology such as GPS tracking, automation, and data analytics to ensure goods are delivered exactly when and where they are needed, minimizing delays and errors. This method helps companies optimize inventory, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction by maintaining high standards of reliability and transparency throughout the logistics process.

What is the difference between Precision Logistics vs Warehouse Associate?

Work EnvironmentSupply chain centers, distribution hubs, transportation settingsWarehouses, storage facilities, distribution centers
Job ResponsibilitiesManaging shipments, coordinating logistics, inventory controlPicking, packing, loading/unloading goods, inventory management

Precision Logistics roles focus on managing and coordinating supply chain activities, often requiring specialized certifications. Warehouse Associates handle physical tasks within storage facilities, with a focus on inventory and order fulfillment. Both roles are essential in logistics but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced in a precision logistics role and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Precision Logistics often encounter challenges such as managing time-sensitive shipments, optimizing complex supply chains, and adapting to unexpected disruptions like weather or supply shortages. Addressing these hurdles requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication with cross-functional teams, and the use of advanced logistics software to track and coordinate shipments in real time. Staying organized and proactive, and regularly reviewing logistics processes, helps ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement.

Who We Are
As a Precision Vehicle Holdings company, Precision Vehicle Logistics was originally created in 2014. Precision Vehicle Logistics is focused on yard management working in partnership with labor unions. PVL offers a full range of vehicle processing services for origin facilities, destination ramps, and ports - including rail loading and unloading.
What You'll Do
As an essential member of the Operations team, you will play a vital role in preparing new vehicles for rail transport, with a strong focus on safety. Success in this role will require the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment. As a Rail Loader, you'll be responsible for:
  • Safely driving and parking new vehicles in designated holding lots or facilities.
  • Carefully selecting vehicles for loading based on predefined criteria.
  • Ensuring the quality handling and distribution of new vehicles post-production.
  • Utilizing scanning technology to accurately assign vehicles to railcars.
  • Conducting vehicle inspections and maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Efficiently loading, securing, and unloading vehicles onto and from train railcars in alignment with AAR and Customer standards.
  • Collaborating closely with team members to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various tasks and duties as assigned by supervisors to support operational needs.

Who You Are
We are seeking a self-motivated Rail Loader with the ability to collaborate effectively. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic along with respect for people and our policies and values.
  • Strong driving skills with an exemplary level of safety awareness, quality, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in operating handheld scanners and other equipment such as bridge plates, end doors, and mobile loading ramps.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Must hold a current, valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and criminal background check.

Physical Demands of the Job
  • The employee must ensure safety while working in a shipping and rail yard environment, including safely entering and exiting customer cars, railcars, and equipment.
  • Work in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Frequently carry, lift, move, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Quickly respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
  • Comfortably wear personal protective equipment.
  • Frequently navigate a busy environment.
  • Perform various manual tasks such as ascending/descending ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, twisting, crouching, and reaching, all of which may be repetitive.
  • Visual acuity and physical dexterity are essential for performing the duties associated with the role.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, work instructions, procedure manuals, and policies.

Additional Information
  • This position requires the employee to be onsite full-time.
  • A person applying for this position must be available to work full-time, with the flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or nights when necessary.
  • As an employee, you will be responsible for retaining a valid driver's license, free from any drug or alcohol-related driving convictions or reckless driving and always remain "insurable" while operating company owned or controlled vehicles.

What We Offer
Details of these benefits plan will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. Benefits may vary by position and location.
  • Comprehensive benefit plans covering medical, dental, vision, life, and disability
  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible paid time off
