As a Team Lead, you'll work closely with the Department Supervisor to keep production running safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You'll spend approximately 90% of your time machining and the remaining time supporting the team through training, coordinating work, organizing setups, and helping improve department performance.
This is more than a "lead" title-you'll be a hands-on technical resource and role model for the team.
Precinmac is a leading diversified manufacturer of high-tolerance precision machined components and assemblies. The Precinmac brand represents seven independently owned companies in the United States and Canada. We focus on continuous improvement, on-time delivery, and the highest possible quality and consistency.
Precinmac offers a highly competitive total compensation package, including:
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance - 3 packages to choose from
  • Life and Disability Insurance, free to the employee
  • 401(k) with Company Match, up to 5%.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) schedule
  • Discretionary quarterly bonus program, up to 5%.

What You'll Do
  • Partner with the Department Supervisor to plan and execute the daily production schedule.
  • Assign work based on employee skill level, customer requirements, and production priorities.
  • Help ensure team members and machines are positioned to meet daily production goals.
  • Set a strong example of work ethic, safety, quality, and company values.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, including setting tool registers, offsets, work coordinates, and other machine parameters.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, travelers, specifications, and GD&T.
  • Perform CNC setups, including installing and adjusting vises, chucks, collets, tooling, bushings, stops, and other workholding equipment.
  • Prove out programs and verify machine settings before production.
  • Follow established CNC programs and obtain appropriate approval before making changes to proven programs.
  • Monitor tooling and equipment and communicate repair or tooling needs to the supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot machining processes and make appropriate adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Inspect first-run and sample parts using appropriate measuring equipment.
  • Support drilling, turning, facing, grooving, threading, knurling, and other machining operations.
  • Train and mentor machinists in machine operation, setups, programming, process improvement, and best practices.
  • Help team members develop their skills and become increasingly self-sufficient.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Promote a culture where safety, quality, and on-time delivery are never compromised.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and help improve department production performance.
  • Assist the Department Supervisor with non-disciplinary leadership and operational tasks as needed.

What We're Looking For
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong CNC machining experience with the ability to independently set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, travelers, and GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a team.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to use data collection and ERP systems.

Preferred:
  • Previous CNC Lead, Senior Machinist, Cell Lead, or similar leadership experience.
  • Associate degree in Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, or a related field.
  • Trade school certification or machining apprenticeship.
  • Experience with CNC programming, process development, and process improvement.
  • Experience training or mentoring other machinists.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining and setup
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and tooling issues
  • Understanding of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and drawings
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Leadership skills and a willingness to coach and develop others
  • Commitment to safety and quality
  • Dependability and a strong sense of ownership
