Job description

PRN PreOp/PACU RN

The RN Preop PACU role is critical in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing surgical procedures in an outpatient ASC. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care in both the preoperative and post-anesthesia care unit settings, facilitating smooth transitions before and after surgery. The nurse will closely monitor patients' vital signs, manage pain, and address any complications that arise during the immediate postoperative period. Collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals is essential to deliver coordinated and effective patient care. Ultimately, this role aims to optimize patient outcomes by maintaining high standards of clinical practice and patient advocacy throughout the surgical experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience in perioperative nursing or critical care nursing.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anesthesia recovery, and patient monitoring.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to perioperative care.
  • Strong communication and patient education skills.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or surgical center setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to evaluate patient readiness and identify potential risks.
  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery, including education and reassurance.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and anesthesia recovery status in the PACU, promptly identifying and responding to any adverse reactions or complications.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and communicate effectively with the surgical team to support continuity of care.

ASC Monday-Friday. Hours needed will vary.
