Reports To:  The Director and Site Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Pre-School Teacher, under the guidance of the Director, develops and delivers interactive learning programs designed to educate and engage young children for an assigned class.  The curriculum must meet the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs of both the individual child and the group.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the assigned schedule on time.
  • In coordination with the Director, develops and implements curriculum that meets the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs of both pre-school students in their class, and for students who are enrolled in before and after school care programs; the curriculum should be age appropriate.  All programs and curriculum should be approved by the Director prior to implementation.
  • Reviews each child’s files and/or information in his/her class and is informed and knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
  • Posts weekly curriculum plans in a professional manner, lists weekly activities, dates to remember including newsletters, reminders, special thanks and/or what the Director deems appropriate.
  • Emails the weekly curriculum to the students’ parents under his/her class in a timely manner.
  • Supervises children in before and after school/care programs, and is accountable for all children under his/her care inside the class and oversees all meal times, play, and other activities.
  • Speaks and listens to children under his/her care with respect, and manages behavior issues age-appropriately.
  • Ensures, supports, and enforces safety for all children including parents, teachers, and staff.
  • Supports and implements daily schedules, tasks, routines, and activities as directed by the Director  If there is a breakdown in schedules, routines, tasks, activities, and/or procedures occurs, is responsible for filling in until he/she is able to meet with appropriate staff members to correct these.
  • Co-Teaches with the Associate Pre-School Teacher
  • Manages communication with parents in their respective programs through emails, phone conversations, or through direct communication; speaks and listens to parents with respect
  • Maintains legal ratios as required by licensing and as directed by the Director.
  • If needed, performs diaper changes, and ensures the changing table is always clean. 
  • Assists in potty training.
  • Completes all required training courses (e.g. safety, professional development) on time as assigned by the Director and/or HR.
  • Reports all issues and concerns with students and parents to the Director.
  • Participates in monthly collaboration meetings
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director. 
Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have an AA Degree on Early Childhood Education/Child Development OR is able to obtain the AA Degree within two (2) years from the date of employment.
  • In the absence of the AA Degree, must have at least 3-5 years of relevant pre-school teaching experience as Teacher or Head Teacher plus pertinent skills as it relates to child development:  good written and verbal communication skills, creativity, emotional development, patience, classroom management and discipline including completed 13 ECE/CD core units.  In addition, must be currently enrolled or be enrolled leading to an AA Degree in Early Childhood Education/Childhood Development.
  • Able to develop and prepare curriculum structures, programs, and activities relevant to early childhood development.
  • Has a professional demeanor, a team player, flexible, and able to adjust to changing schedules and work situations.
  • Must complete or have completed the following mandatory training:  Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Food Handling, CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and reach above shoulders (reasonable accommodation may be provided).
  • Must pass background and/or fingerprint clearances including reference checks.
  • Clear health screening and TB Test results.
