Job description

Job Title: Route Driver

Route: This position provides vacation coverage for a variety of routes through the upper Midwest - MN, WI, IA, IL, NE, SD. 1-3 Overnights/week depending on the route being covered. Flexible schedule with warehouse work available when route coverage is not needed.

Wage: 25.88/hour. *Meal/Hotel compensation*

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Transportation

Summary: The Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting products to customers while strictly adhering to all quality and food safety standards. This role is a key part of the shipping and receiving operations at Prairie Farms Inc. – Shullsburg Transportation. The position involves collaboration with the warehouse team for efficient load management, as well as coordination with dispatchers regarding delivery assignments. The Delivery Driver must be able to work independently and as part of a team to proactively support shared business objectives. This over-the-road truck driving position encompasses designated and predetermined routes and stops in between delivering product to additional warehouse and distribution points throughout the area. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Follow all company safety rules and policies.
  • Operate company-owned or leased trucks over 4 tons to support shipping and receiving operations.
  • Transport, pick up, and relocate creamery products and materials as assigned.
  • Conduct pre-, during-, and post-operation vehicle inspections and complete all required maintenance reports.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service during all pickup and delivery activities.
  • Maintain all certifications required by the Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and company safety programs.
  • Preserve and protect all company property, ensuring it remains in excellent condition.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation for bookkeeping and inventory tracking.
  • Clean out the delivery truck at the end of each route weekly to prepare it for warehouse loading.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support and enhance team operations.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance that positively represents the company.
  • Treat colleagues, customers, and partners with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Communicate opportunities for improvement to leadership, recognizing that growth and change are ongoing processes.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Valid Class A CLD license.
  • Ability to exhibit a positive image and professionalism to customers.
  • Must possess a high attention to detail and produce quality, accurate work and quickly detect/ correct errors.
  • Ability to multi-task and self-direct/ self-motivate.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as required.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate, understand and write in the English language.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis. The employee must be able to push, pull, and move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds. Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
