The Practicum Intern and Clinical Intern roles often overlap in educational and training settings, but Practicum Interns typically focus on gaining general experience in community or organizational environments, while Clinical Interns are more involved in healthcare or mental health clinical settings. Both roles are essential for students pursuing careers in health, social work, or related fields, and their distinctions mainly lie in the specific work environment and industry focus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a practicum intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Practicum Intern, you need foundational knowledge in your field of study, strong academic standing, and often enrollment in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with industry-specific software, data entry systems, or research tools is commonly required depending on the internship focus. Initiative, reliability, and strong communication skills help you stand out and build professional relationships. These skills and qualities are essential for effectively learning on the job, contributing to team projects, and preparing for future professional roles.

What is a practicum intern?

Practicum interns are students or recent graduates who participate in supervised, hands-on work experiences as part of their academic training. These internships, often required in fields like psychology, education, or healthcare, allow interns to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings while gaining practical skills. Practicum interns typically work under the guidance of experienced professionals and may be evaluated for academic credit or professional certification. The experience helps them build confidence, develop competencies, and prepare for future employment in their chosen field.

What types of projects or responsibilities can a practicum intern expect to handle during their placement?

As a Practicum Intern, you'll typically be assigned hands-on projects and tasks that align with your academic background and career interests. These may include assisting with research, supporting ongoing projects, attending team meetings, and collaborating with staff on day-to-day operations. The specific responsibilities often vary by organization, but you can expect a mix of supervised independent work and team-based assignments designed to build your practical skills. Regular feedback and mentorship are common, helping you gain valuable professional experience and prepare for future roles in your field.

Job description

Ahoy, Matey!
Success On The Spectrum is a national ABA therapy franchise that teaches valuable life skills to children with Autism. Our model combines the most effective methods of Applied Behavior Analysis science with play-based learning. We use mostly NET and promote generalization with frequent field trips. Our goal is to help them grow into productive and fulfilled adults, ultimately increasing the overall quality of life.

We are looking for playful, high-energy Behavior Technicians seeking full-time employment. You must have a passion for helping kids learn and have fun! If this describes you and you are looking for an ABA company that makes you love coming to work each day, please apply!

SOS gives hands-on training to our Behavior Technicians. SOS will also pay for your 40-hour certification course to become a Registered Behavior Technician. SOS will increase your ABA knowledge through our weekly team trainings and quarterly in-service training days. SOS will pay for you to maintain your CPR certification as well as your QBS Safety Care Certification. We also offer several side certification programs through the CR Institute platform.

Most RBTs at SOS work full-time. Your pay is not affected by client cancellations. Within the center, teams will rotate clients every 90 minutes. SOS offers full-time employees 2 weeks of PTO per year and unlimited non-paid time off.

If you want to advance your career in ABA further, there are opportunities for you to become a Behavior Analyst intern! You can take advantage of the national partnerships that Success On The Spectrum has formed with many universities. SOS is an approved practicum site for Purdue, Florida Institute of Technology, and Nova Southeastern University. SOS also offers employees discounted tuition for graduate programs at Purdue University.

Success On The Spectrum is a national franchise and we are growing quickly! There is a lot of opportunity for you to move up to managerial positions at newly opening locations. Being part of a franchise also gives you the option of transferring to a different location, in the event that you need to move away.
