Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Practice Manager of the Shinnecock Health Clinic is responsible for planning, directing and overseeing the efficacy of Ambulatory Services provided to patients at the Shinnecock Indian Health Clinic in collaboration with the Shinnecock Council of Trustees. Ensures alignment with Stony Brook Medicine operational protocols to ensure the clinic is operating in alignment with required practices. In collaboration with the Director of Ambulatory Services and the VP of Allied & Ambulatory Health, ensures routine review of practice performance against collaboratively established goals.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops community health goals with Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Shinnecock Nation Health Committee and Health Clinic staff. 
  • Plans outreach efforts to provide health education and targeted services such as support groups, speakers and health screenings. 
  • Prepares culturally appropriate health education materials and assists with planning of health fairs. 
  • Ensures patient complaints are investigated and adjudicated in a timely fashion. Patients receive a response and action is taken when needed.
  • Maintains open communication with administration, staff, providers, billers, finance, information systems, medical records, administration, engineering and other SHH departments. 
  • Ensures the Electronic Health Record is maintained to collect protected health information to ensure level of care, to provide appropriate documentation, and to improve practice efficiencies and streamline workflow. 
  • Implement new systems/procedures and supports staff in efforts to ensure high quality, compliant and cost-effective patient care. 
  • Responsible for program coordination and development in compliance with the goals of the New York State Indian Health Services, the Shinnecock Nation Health Committee and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. 
  • Oversees purchasing and stocking of office and medical supplies, medical equipment and patient education materials. 
  • Prepares and delivers quarterly report documenting activity and progress toward goals, QI and volume data. Prepares and delivers other reports as requested. 
  • Responsible for improvement of revenue cycle and exploration and identification of alternate revenue streams as appropriate. Oversees and ensure alignment with financial and budgetary targets for the operation. 
  • Manages, coordinates and participates in all planning and administrative activities related to the NYS DOH and additional funding-grants. 
  • Ensures regulatory readiness with respect to Article 28, Joint Commission and all other required regulatory agencies. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management, organizational skills and problem solving skills
  • Customer service skills imperative 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree
  • Prior managerial experience with at least three years in the healthcare setting
  • Familiarity or experience with Native-American health services

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing, walking 90% of the time. 
  • Lifting objects with or without assistance. 
  • Filing, typing, etc.

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.

  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
