Join a leading company in the Maritime Industry in a critical role on our Training team! Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an exciting opportunity available as a Manager, Learning and Employee Development - Ship Assist in our Jacksonville, FL or New Canaan, CT office. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Enterprise Learning and Development.
Position Summary
The Manager, Learning and Employee Development - Ship Assist leads training, onboarding, safety, and workforce development for Moran's captains, crews, and shoreside teams. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on engagement to ensure mariners operate safely and effectively in high-risk environments.
Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Learning and Development, this position partners with Operations, Safety, and HR to align training with business needs and Moran's commitment to zero harm. The role champions The Moran Way - Listen, Learn, Lead and drives a culture of continuous learning and safe, consistent performance, while building a scalable training model leveraging internal and external resources.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:
Safety, Compliance & Operational Training (25%)
โ€ข Lead safety and compliance training aligned with USCG, OSHA, ISM, and company standards.
โ€ข Partner with Safety and Operations to deliver hands-on training in core vessel operations.
โ€ข Facilitate onboarding, NSAP, and operational training programs with strong field application.
โ€ข Identify training gaps through incident trends, audits, and crew feedback, and reinforce safe work practices.
Training Strategy & Learning Leadership (20%)
โ€ข Serve as the Ship Assist learning leader, aligning training with business and operational priorities.
โ€ข Develop and execute the annual training plan, including delivery strategy and resource allocation.
โ€ข Design blended learning solutions (onboard, simulator, classroom, eLearning)
โ€ข Build and leverage a network of instructors and training partners to ensure consistent delivery.
Mariner Qualifications & Workforce Readiness (20%)
โ€ข Support development of mariner career pathways across Deck, Engine, Mate, and Captain roles.
โ€ข Define competency standards and readiness expectations in partnership with operations.
โ€ข Enhance and standardize qualification tools, assessments, and evaluations across ports.
Onboarding & Early Development (15%)
โ€ข Lead onboarding programs to ensure new hires are prepared for operational roles.
โ€ข Align enterprise and port-level onboarding practices.
โ€ข Develop tools, training plans, and guidance to support consistent onboarding experiences.
Leadership Development (10%)
โ€ข Support development and delivery of leadership programs across all levels.
โ€ข Reinforce expectations around communication, accountability, coaching, and safety leadership.

Training Execution & Systems (10%)
โ€ข Oversee training logistics, scheduling, and instructor coordination.

Required Qualifications
โ€ข 7+ years of experience in maritime operations, training, safety, or workforce development.
โ€ข Strong understanding of ship docking or tug operations.
โ€ข Experience delivering training in operational environments.

โ€ข Experience designing and developing training programs or learning materials.
โ€ข Experience leading, coaching, or developing employees, instructors, or operational teams.
โ€ข Ability to manage multiple priorities across locations.

Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข USCG Deck or Engineering License.
โ€ข Operational experience in ship docking or tug operations (Engineer, Mate, or Captain).

Physical demands of this position include the ability to:
