Job description

Title: Public Affairs Specialist - Intermediate (contingent 034)

Multiple Locations: APG, MD, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Huntsville, AL

A secret security clearance is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of federal government public relations/affairs.
  • Able to develop and execute tailored communications plans.
  • Able to create content across multiple mediums, primarily in written form (i.e. articles, fact sheets, briefing slides, correspondence, messaging, speech writing, etc.) and work with creative team for visual products that span the headquarters and different levels of Project and Product Management.
  • Serve as a peer reviewer of communications products.
  • Plans and coordinates public affairs communication, events and activities to support the mission, objectives, and goals of the client’s organization helping to maintain the relationship between organization and the public;
  • Provides analysis, advice, and/or implementation assistance on all functional aspects of public affairs, including but not limited to digital media, executive communications, command information/internal communications, research and analysis.
  • Ability to work in various communications mediums including but not limited to digital and social media platforms, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and other applications such as (but not limited to).

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the development and implementation of the organization's public relations programs, policies, events, and activities to include correspondence, messaging, and campaigns that span the different levels of Project and Product Management.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Army and other Services to ensure effective communications and change-readiness capabilities are in place.
  • Provide peer review of physical and virtual promotional materials and monitoring, reviewing, approving, and submitting items for public release Collaborate and draft articles through newspapers, periodicals, and audio and visual communications media, including the Internet and outward facing websites.
  • Create, manage, and publish engaging content – in various formats – across digital platforms (e.g., websites, social media, newsletters) ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and alignment with command priorities.
  • Review published content; monitoring, listening and responding to users developing and expand community outreach efforts.
  • Provide multimedia support, including photography, videography and basic graphic design to support public affairs campaigns, leadership messaging, and event documentation, Monitor community activities and coordinate participation in events and public forums.
  • Development of relevant content in specialized areas of public affairs activities such as press, radio, and TV relations, tradeshow relations and community relations.
  • Development and management of internal communications efforts, including but not limited to newsletters, awards, SharePoint content, etc.
  • Support with knowledge management and staff action task management on behalf of the directorate.
  • Adhere to the company’s AS9100 and QMS policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • A minimum of six (6) years’ experience in public affairs/public relations or a related field is required.
  • Substitution: Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant military service can be utilized as related experience.
  • Desired: DINFOS accreditation, or similar, desired but not required; Published articles may be requested to demonstrate experience
  • Desired: CANVA is desired but not required.
  • Desired: Demonstrated experience in DoD, Army, Intel Community or related federal sectors is desired.
  • Proven experience publishing written materials such as press releases and articles.
  • Familiarity with managing taskers.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet short suspenses.
  • Secret security clearance is required.
