What is a PR Event Manager?

PR Event Managers are professionals responsible for planning, organizing, and executing events that promote a company, brand, or organization. Their main goal is to create a positive public image and generate media coverage through well-coordinated events such as product launches, press conferences, or community activities. They work closely with clients, vendors, media representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure each event aligns with the organization’s public relations strategy. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

How does a PR Event Manager typically collaborate with other departments during the planning and execution of events?

A PR Event Manager works closely with a variety of departments, including marketing, communications, sales, and sometimes product teams, to ensure that events align with the company's broader objectives. They coordinate with marketing for promotional materials, work with communications to craft key messages, and partner with sales to identify target audiences or clients to invite. Effective collaboration requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as the PR Event Manager often serves as the main point of contact to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the event planning process.

Job description

Leviathan™ battery systems are on vessels. Autonomous programs are underway. A $43M Series A is public. The story is real and the timing is right.

This role owns Fleetzero's earned media program and event execution: building journalist and creator relationships across maritime trade press, defense publications, VC media, and mainstream business outlets - pitching the right angle to the right reporter, then executing at industry events with operational precision.

This is not a press-release-writing job. If you can name the journalist, the angle, and the outlet for a placement you drove in the last twelve months - this is your role.

What You'll Own

Media Relations & PR
• Own and expand Fleetzero's media relationships across venture capital publications,
maritime trade press, defense publications, energy and climate media, and mainstream
business outlets.
• Develop and execute proactive pitch strategy: identify story angles, match them to the
right reporters, and drive placement.
• Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and executive bylines. Own the
editorial calendar for all external communications.
• Track coverage, reporting metrics to leadership on reach, sentiment, and SOV.

Creator & Influencer Relations
• Identify and cultivate relationships with VC, maritime, defense, and industrial content
creators across YouTube, LinkedIn, and podcasting.
• Coordinate creator visits, briefings, and partnership activations to expand Fleetzero's
organic reach.

Events & Experiential
• Lead end-to-end planning and execution for trade shows, industry conferences,
government briefings, and Fleetzero-hosted events (including facility tours, ribbon
cuttings, and partner summits).
• Manage vendor relationships, booth design, logistics, speaker preparation, and on-site
execution.
• Serve as the internal project manager for all event-related workstreams: coordinating
across marketing, engineering, BD, and leadership.
• Build event playbooks and post-event reports that drive continuous improvement.
• Manage and pro-actively prepare for Fleetzero’s experiential calendar.
• Pitch and secure prominent speaker and panel positions for Fleetzero team
What We're Looking For
• 3+ years of PR, communications, or events experience, preferably in B2B, industrial,
defense, or technology sectors.
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, business management or related field.
• An established network of maritime, defense, or energy journalists and editors is a
significant advantage.
• Proven track record of securing earned media placements
• Exceptional project management skills
• Strong written communication skills. Tight, clean prose.
• Willingness to travel to domestic and international events on short notice.

Bonus Points
• Existing relationships with reporters, creators, and podcasters.
• PR or Ad Agency experience.
• A strong portfolio of proven work.
• Examples of innovative activations you have led which led to positive business
outcomes.
• You thrive in a fast-paced startup, ever-fluid environment.
