Job description

OVERVIEW 

The Senior Public Relations Specialist is responsible for a wide range of activities, including writing, media relations, influencer relations, event support, outcomes measurement and more. This individual is familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures, and relies on his/her own experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

As with every level of PR practitioner, the Senior PR Specialist helps maintain a favorable public image for clients as well as Curious Plot.

Background of this individual should align closely with the agency’s business focus of food, agriculture and companion animal health within the business-to-business and business-to-consumer spectrum.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS 

  • Copywriting for a variety of needs/channels
  • Media pitching and building media relationships
  • Identifying and working with influencers
  • Supporting strategic planning, including ideation for PR campaigns
  • Monitoring media coverage, tracking results and reporting to clients
  • Ensuring all communications are accurate and consistent with overall brand positioning
  • Proactive communication support, including timely responses to questions, clear follow-up, and proactive status updates for clients, account team and integrated team members
  • Managing media requests in a prioritized manner, with well-timed responses and clear escalation when needed
  • Maintaining team visibility into priorities, deadlines, risks, and changes in scope to ensure alignment across deliverables
  • Tracking budgets and hours on projects
  • Effectively managing up with supervisors and account leaders
  • Beginning people management skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or related field
  • Four to six years of experience in journalism or communications
  • Proficiency with various technology tools including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Teams) 
  • Working knowledge of AP style
  • Identifying and working with influencers
  • Experience with food or agriculture preferred
  • Agency experience perferred

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

The pay range is $65,000 - $85,000

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications.
