Job description

Under the direction of the Powerhouse Lead, the powerhouse operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable maintenance and monitoring of the steam generating boilers and related equipment, hot water systems, ammonia refrigeration compressors and related equipment, compressed air equipment, plant vacuum pumps and fire alarm system.

Familiarity with basic and advanced hand and power tools including tubing benders, welders, grinders, and sheet metal. Requires maintaining constant compliance of emergency equipment, including the ability to properly wear respiratory equipment (For FIT Test), and maintenance of PPE which requires passing a yearly medical physical. The job expectations are to work from brief verbal as well as moderately complex written instructions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Utility log rounds and meter readings.

  • Operation of Boilers, Ammonia system, Water system, and Compressed air system.

  • Facility repairs and maintenance including doors, drains, exhaust fans etc. and PMโ€™s.

  • Required to be a HAZWOPER team member.

  • Maintain good Housekeeping without direction.

  • General Plumbing skills, including PVC, black iron, copper and stainless steel.

  • Assist with energy savings and plant improvements.

Skills Required:

  • Must demonstrate effective process knowledge.

  • Show listening and approachability skills with teamwork ability.

  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities.

  • Preferred experience with pipefitting, plumbing, rebuilding pumps, gearboxes, welding, layout and fabrication, and mechanical drawings.

  • 2 yearsโ€™ experience or technical training in the following areas (Refrigeration, Boiler operation, water treatment).

  • Must take cardio pulmonary test.

  • Good communication/teamwork skills.

  • Willing to train on overtime and work holidays.
