How much do power systems engineer remote etap jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for power systems engineer remote etap in the United States is $117,702.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $98,000.00 and $134,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a Power Systems Engineer Remote ETAP do?

A Power Systems Engineer Remote ETAP specializes in designing, analyzing, and optimizing electrical power systems using ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program) software. Working remotely, they perform tasks such as load flow studies, short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and system modeling to ensure electrical networks are efficient, reliable, and safe. These engineers collaborate with utility companies, industrial clients, and engineering teams to support the planning and operation of power distribution and transmission systems, often providing technical reports and recommendations based on their analyses.

What is the difference between Power Systems Engineer Remote Etap vs Power Systems Analyst?

AspectPower Systems Engineer Remote EtapPower Systems Analyst
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, ETAP certification preferredBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field, some certifications beneficial
Work EnvironmentRemote, engineering design and analysisOffice or remote, data analysis and system evaluation
Industry UsageDesign, simulation, and testing of power systemsSystem analysis, performance evaluation, and reporting

The Power Systems Engineer Remote Etap focuses on designing and simulating power systems using ETAP software, often working remotely. In contrast, the Power Systems Analyst primarily evaluates existing systems, analyzing data to improve performance. Both roles require electrical engineering knowledge, but the Engineer role emphasizes design and simulation, while the Analyst role centers on data analysis and reporting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Power Systems Engineer working remotely with ETAP, and why are they important?

A Power Systems Engineer typically needs a degree in electrical engineering, strong understanding of power system analysis, and experience with system design and protection. Proficiency in ETAP software, familiarity with industry standards (such as IEEE), and sometimes a Professional Engineer (PE) license are required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation skills help remote engineers collaborate effectively and manage projects independently. These abilities ensure accurate analysis, reliable system performance, and efficient teamwork in remote and technical environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Power Systems Engineers working remotely with ETAP, and how can these be addressed?

Remote Power Systems Engineers using ETAP often encounter challenges such as coordinating effectively with distributed teams, accessing large datasets securely, and troubleshooting technical issues without on-site support. To overcome these, engineers can leverage collaborative tools for real-time communication, ensure robust VPN and data access protocols, and participate in regular virtual meetings to align on project goals. Additionally, documenting workflows and utilizing ETAP’s cloud-based features can help streamline remote collaboration and project management.

Power Systems Engineer ---Remote

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Power Systems Engineer to support an innovation initiative focused on substantially accelerating Transmission and Distribution planning tools using NVIDIA GPU technology. This role will be responsible for modeling and converting existing Transmission and Distribution network models currently developed in CYME and GE PSLF into pandapower-based Python models, working with NVIDIA resources and performing steady state powerflow analysis for these models using GPUs and CUDA libraries.
The ideal candidate combines strong power systems fundamentals, hands-on experience with planning tools, and programming skills, and is excited to work at the intersection of power engineering and high-performance computing.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Transmission and Distribution network models using pandapower (Python)
  • Convert and validate existing network models from CYME and GE PSLF into pandapower equivalents
  • Ensure electrical fidelity between source models and converted models (topology, parameters, limits, results)
  • Work with NVIDIA engineers in developing Powerflow analysis solution using GPUs and CUDA libraries
  • Collaborate with power systems engineers, data scientists, and GPU/HPC specialists to enable GPU-accelerated simulations
  • Assist in benchmarking CPU vs GPU performance for power system studies
  • Document modeling assumptions, validation results, and technical findings for internal and executive audiences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred)
  • Strong foundation in power system analysis, including:
    • Power flow (AC/DC)
    • Transmission and Distribution modeling
    • Per-unit systems and network parameters
  • Hands-on experience with power system planning tools
  • Programming experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Transmission Planning and/or Distribution Planning studies
  • Understanding of power system matrices (Ybus, Jacobian, PTDF/LODF)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Familiarity with pandapower or other open-source power system frameworks (strong plus)
  • Ability to work with large-scale network models and complex datasets
