Job description

Overview

Arete Intelligent Power builds the power conversion hardware behind high-density AI compute. We are looking for a Field Application Engineer to be the technical authority on our rack-level power portfolio: sidecar power racks, in-rack AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, and battery backup shelves.

This is not facility infrastructure work. It is rack and component level, and it sits between hard power electronics and the customer's buying decision.

What you'll do

โ€ข Partner with the sales team to uncover technical requirements and architect rack-level power conversion solutions for hyperscale and AI-focused environments.

โ€ข Develop conceptual designs, integration guidelines, and technical evaluations for sidecar power racks, high-efficiency PSUs, and in-rack DC-DC conversion.

โ€ข Lead technical responses to RFPs and RFQs; evaluate power shelves, BBU shelves, and DC-DC modules for fit, derating, thermal envelope, and integration risk.

โ€ข Represent Arete in OCP working groups and at the OCP Global Summit; guide customers on ORv3 and OCP HPR (21-inch, 44 OU) form-factor fit.

โ€ข Field customer and AHJ questions on NEC 645, UL 62368, DC arc-flash and IEEE 1584 analysis, and DC protection at 800 VDC.

โ€ข Work daily with our Taiwan-based R&D organization to translate customer requirements into engineering-ready requests.

โ€ข Act as the voice of the customer for internal product and engineering teams, shaping future 800 VDC architectures.

โ€ข Support bench testing and prototype validation with hardware engineering teams and system integrators.

What you bring

โ€ข BSEE or a closely related technical degree with a focus on power electronics.

โ€ข 5+ years in technical applications, sales support, or power engineering, working with server-level power supplies and power conversion systems.

โ€ข Deep proficiency in AC and DC power topologies, with strong emphasis on 800 VDC architectures and high-density DC-DC/AC-DC conversion.

โ€ข Working knowledge of Open Compute Project rack and power specifications (ORv3, OCP HPR) and the safety and certification framework governing data center power: NEC 645, UL 62368, IEEE 1584.

โ€ข Strong analytical understanding of power electronics components, including inverters, capacitors, and transformers in high-heat, high-load environments.

โ€ข Exceptional communication skills, with a track record of guiding both hardware engineers and executive stakeholders through complex technical evaluations.

โ€ข Comfort operating across time zones and cultures, including regular early-morning coordination with engineering teams in Taiwan and periodic international travel.

Details

Full-time, exempt. Onsite in Fremont, CA with flexibility around the early-morning engineering cadence. Approximately 20% travel, domestic and international. Base salary $140,000 per year plus bonus. Medical, dental and vision insurance, and seven days of paid time off annually. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
