Job description

Job Description Electrical Engineer - Controls, Instrumentation & Power Systems Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma Area Industry: Oil & Gas / Energy Operations A well-established energy operator is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support industrial facilities and capital improvement projects in the Tulsa region. This position combines electrical power engineering with exposure to instrumentation, automation, and control systems. The engineer will contribute to equipment selection, system studies, facility troubleshooting, contractor oversight, and project execution.

The role requires someone who can move comfortably between detailed engineering work and hands-on support in an operating plant environment. What You'll Be Responsible For Define technical requirements and recommend electrical equipment for operating facilities and complex capital projects. Review vendor quotations, technical proposals, and bid packages to support purchasing decisions.

Design and assess plant electrical infrastructure, including generation, utility connections, distribution networks, motor controls, lighting, backup power, grounding, protective systems, alarms, and emergency shutdown functions. Perform or coordinate engineering studies involving short-circuit conditions, arc-flash hazards, relay coordination, motor starting, voltage drop, load flow, and load-shedding scenarios. Provide practical engineering guidance through calculations, written reports, code interpretations, research, and technical recommendations.

Maintain electrical specifications, engineering standards, and hazardous-area classification documentation. Confirm that designs and operating practices align with current safety requirements, environmental expectations, process-safety obligations, and recognized industry standards. Evaluate opportunities to reduce energy consumption and improve electrical efficiency.

Review drawings, calculations, equipment selections, and studies produced by third-party engineering firms. Diagnose electrical issues affecting new installations and existing operating assets. Develop scopes of work and prepare cost estimates suitable for budgeting and project-authorization requests.

Coordinate limited-scope projects and field activities while tracking schedules, costs, priorities, and deliverable quality. Participate in technical meetings or industry events and deliver presentations when needed. Complete other engineering assignments that support facility reliability and safe operations.

Required Background Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. At least three years of relevant engineering, plant, project, or technical experience. Working knowledge of industrial power-system design, distribution equipment, and protective-relaying practices.

Experience specifying, designing, or troubleshooting motors and associated equipment, such as starters, variable-frequency drives, and motor-protection relays. Experience using power-system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or a comparable platform. Ability to perform or interpret short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, load-flow, and related electrical studies.

General knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices for electrical assets. Familiarity with the electrical codes and standards commonly applied in industrial energy facilities, including NEC, NFPA, and API requirements. Understanding of proposals, contracts, competitive bids, project scopes, and budgeting fundamentals.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, maintenance, project-management, and leadership teams. Self-directed work style and the ability to manage several priorities at the same time. Valid driver's license and a driving history that meets company requirements.

Dependable attendance and availability to support assigned responsibilities. Preferred Experience Familiarity with programmable logic controllers and PLC-based control strategies. Experience with analog field instrumentation.

Understanding of digital control systems, process-control applications, and instrument or control-system selection.
