What is power packaging?

Power packaging refers to the process of enclosing and protecting power electronic components, such as semiconductors and modules, to ensure their efficient operation, reliability, and safety. The packaging helps manage heat dissipation, electrical isolation, and mechanical support. It is crucial in industries like automotive, renewable energy, and industrial automation, where power devices must operate under high voltages and temperatures. Advances in power packaging aim to improve performance, reduce size, and extend the lifespan of electronic systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a power packaging operator?

To thrive as a Power Packaging Operator, you need a strong understanding of packaging processes, basic mechanical aptitude, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with automated packaging machinery, safety protocols, and inventory management systems is usually required. Attention to detail, effective teamwork, and problem-solving skills help operators excel in fast-paced environments. These competencies ensure efficient production, minimize errors, and maintain product quality and safety standards.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals working in power packaging, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Power Packaging often encounter challenges such as managing thermal constraints, ensuring high reliability under demanding operating conditions, and optimizing designs for manufacturability and cost efficiency. Staying up to date with the latest materials and packaging technologies can help overcome these hurdles. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers—is essential to address complex integration issues and develop innovative solutions.

What is the difference between Power Packaging vs Packaging Operator?

AspectPower PackagingPackaging Operator
Required CertificationsTypically requires OSHA safety training, forklift certification, and possibly machinery operation licensesUsually requires OSHA safety training and basic equipment operation knowledge
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, industrial settings, often involving heavy machinery and automationPackaging lines in manufacturing facilities, working with packaging machines and materials
Employer & Industry UsageFood, beverage, consumer goods industries focusing on packaging products efficientlyManufacturers and warehouses handling packaging processes for various products

Power Packaging roles typically involve operating and maintaining packaging machinery, often requiring specialized certifications and working in industrial environments. Packaging Operators focus on running packaging lines, ensuring products are correctly packaged, with similar safety training but generally less technical certification. Both roles are essential in manufacturing, but Power Packaging positions tend to involve more technical skills and machinery oversight.

Position Summary

The Production Planning Manager leads production planning and control for the gas turbine package manufacturing value stream— converting demand into a sequenced, executable, capacity-feasible schedule and leading the planning and scheduling team that delivers it. The role owns the published schedule and its commitments, the demonstrated-capacity model, material flow to the schedule, and the master data and transaction discipline an enterprise ERP depends on — running disciplined planning with today’s tools and system-based Master Planning (MRP) as the system of record after go-live. Success in this role is a value stream that delivers to schedule: adherence measured and improving, shortages escalated before impact rather than expedited around, and a team developed into system-fluent planning professionals. This position leads the turbine power-package value stream across our Sedalia and Houston campuses.

Reports To: VP, Production Planning and Continuous Improvement

Work Location: 2001 Proenergy Blvd, Sedalia, MO 65301 . This role will also support the6246 McHard Road, Houston, TX 77053 location.

Position Responsibilities
  • Own the package build schedule across both sites: sequence assembly against engine delivery dates, long-lead major components, and project milestones; publish a single priority the floor can execute — via disciplined manual scheduling today and ERP-based Master Planning (MRP) after go-live, keeping system dates honest against project commitments.
  • Optimize cross-site capacity: document assembly bay occupancy, crane and test constraints, and realistic build durations; balance load between Sedalia and Houston, protect constraint resources, and drive schedule adherence as the function’s core metric.
  • Lead master data readiness and integrity for the packaging scope: drive cleansing of item masters, bill-of-material structures, and routings — including engineer-to-order variant management — and after go-live, enforce accurate, on-time recording of material issues, completions, and project charges so work-in-process, cost, and status reflect reality.
  • Integrate material coordination across two campuses: establish staging, kitting, and point-of-use delivery disciplines for large components; replace informal expediting with a defined shortage escalation process.
  • Serve as a functional lead through the ERP implementation for the packaging scope: execute user acceptance testing on production and project-linked transactions against real package scenarios, validate cross-site workflows before cutover, and own planned-order, exception, and release discipline in the system thereafter.
  • Connect package planning to the enterprise: provide accurate supply signals to master scheduling and sales & operations planning; align with engine production planning so package and engine schedules move as one.
  • Partner with continuous improvement leadership on flow and shortage-reduction improvement events; standardize planning standard work across the packaging function.
  • Develop the team: build planner and coordinator capability across sites, establish clear role standards, and grow bench depth for the production ramp.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field — or equivalent progressive experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years in production control, planning, or project-based manufacturing scheduling, with direct people-leadership experience, including remote or cross-site team management.
  • Industry expertise: Experience planning large, long-cycle assemblies integrating engines or major components — capital equipment, energy-sector packaging, or skid fabrication.
  • Systems: Hands-on ERP experience (implementation, migration, or power-user depth); strong Excel and capacity-modeling capability; comfort with milestone-driven scheduling and constraint management.
  • Execution: Demonstrated ability to run disciplined manual scheduling across multiple sites and lead a team through digital transition.
  • Travel Required: Willingness to travel up to 40%.
  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work authorized visa.
  • Successful candidates will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry leadership: Gas turbine package, generator set, or comparable complex-assembly experience.
  • Systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations; project-linked manufacturing with project accounting integration.
  • Certifications: APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP).
  • Business models: Make-to-order, engineer-to-order, or configure-to-order environments.
  • Methods: Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and daily management systems.
  • Milestone discipline under project pressure — keeps engineer-to-order commitments honest against engine and supply reality.
  • Fluency in capacity modeling, constraint management, and long-lead material mechanics for large assemblies.
  • Cross-functional influence with program management, supply chain, engineering, and shipping/logistics.
  • Change leadership through an ERP transition, including project-linked manufacturing discipline.

It is PROENERGY’s policy to provide equal opportunity in employment to all its employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, national origin, marital status, ancestry, medical condition, military status, or any other characteristic protected by State or Federal law.
