Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Power Generator - Field Service Technician for our Irving, Texas location. This position is responsible for providing troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on power generation, gas and diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), in order to respond to customers, needs in a positive, safe and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.
At least 5 years of field or shop tech troubleshooting and repair skills of Electrical Power and Generator experience required. At least 5 years of field or shop tech troubleshooting and repair skills of ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches) experience required. Must have a clean driving record.
Essential Functions
Job Description : This position is responsible for providing troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on electric power generation equipment, powered by natural gas or diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), Switchgear; and to respond to customer's needs in a positive, safe, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.

Essential Functions
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs basic to intermediate repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
  • Performs basic to intermediate troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of electric power generator equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Removes and install parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Completes assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level Technicians
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of Electrical Power and Generator - experience required.
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of Natural Gas and Diesel Engine - experience required.
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches) - experience required.
  • Electrical 3 phase experience preferred
  • Able to build electrical control panel boxes
  • Able to commission generators for data centers
  • Excellent customer service skills. Must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with customers and employees in a professional manner.
  • Must have own tools for both electrical and mechanical.
  • Intermediate diagnostic and trouble-shooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects

Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • More than five years of electric power generator equipment experience required; 7 or more years preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • MSHA certification preferred
  • Electrical Journeyman license preferred
  • Electrical experience with 270v or greater
  • 3 phase electrical experience preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Travel: Travel will be required with overnight stay
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's license required
  • Must maintain a DOT Medical Card
  • Must maintain a safe driving record
  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver license
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday from 7 AM - 5 PM, and overtime as required.
  • Must be on-call two weeks out of the month.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment:
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
