Job Description

AECOM’s Transportation group is seeking a dynamic Traction Power Engineer to join our World Class Rail Team in support of our New York Metro Region systems practice. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to perform design calculations learn and apply new material efficiently and support the rail systems group during design and construction projects.

You will also work on ongoing notable projects with major railway systems while showing technical competence in all elements of transit traction power engineering. In addition, have experience with projects including design and construction of commuter rail roads, new light rail, and subway systems across the US. Typical projects also include design for local commuter rail systems such as MTA NYCT, Metro North, LIRR, PATH and New Jersey Transit.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsibility for the preparation of power systems AC and DC single-line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics, AC and DC control schematics, wiring drawings, substation equipment layout drawings, conduit routing drawings, cable schedules, equipment mounting and installation drawings, grounding grid design, lightning protection design, lighting design, and related power distribution design drawings.
  • Will be involved in the preparation of engineering design criteria and reports.
  • Will be responsible for the preparation of engineering technical specifications.
  • Will perform onsite inspections, physical measurements, and field reports in live high-voltage substations and along active railroads.
  • Will attend factory tests, site commissioning tests, and prepare field reports.
  • Will perform protective relay settings and coordination studies.
    Will provide estimates for the engineering budget and schedule a to meet requirements on large, complex projects.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field + 4 years of Traction Power design experience with 750 V DC third rail and overhead distribution systems( 12 kV AC, 25 Hz, 2 x 12.5 kV AC, 60 Hz, 2 x 25 kV, 60 Hz.) or demonstrated equivalent. 
  • Railway electrification (DC and AC), specifically design, construction, test & commissioning, and maintenance of electrical substations.
  • Development of technical specifications of electrical substation equipment.
  • Electrical calculations of railway traction electrical substations.
  • Design, calculation, and construction of grounding & bonding networks for electric railways in DC and AC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical engineer with proven experience in railway traction power discipline.
  • Professional Engineering License (New York).
