Moog's Gilbert AZ facility is a leading designer of spaceflight hardware and is a part of the Spacecraft Avionics business unit in the Space & Defense Group. Moog has partnered with NASA to provide electronic solutions for the Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REX to study asteroid composition along with complete satellite buses for the defense department.

We are seeking a talented Staff Power Electronics Engineer for our facility in Gilbert, AZ.

Role Overview

Moog Space & Defense Group develops high-reliability avionics, power distribution, onboard computing, and spacecraft electronics supporting NASA, civil space, and defense missions. We are seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design of high-reliability power electronics for spacecraft and defense systems.

This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for architecting and delivering power conversion solutions while mentoring engineers and partnering across systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and program teams.

What You'll Do

  • Architect and design high-reliability power electronics including DC-DC converters and related subsystems such as inverters, motor drives, or battery-management systems.
  • Perform circuit design, simulation, component selection, schematic capture, and guide PCB layout, thermal, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, integration, debug, verification, and qualification activities.
  • Develop and review specifications, design reviews, test plans, and verification documentation.
  • Solve complex technical issues using structured root-cause analysis.
  • Provide technical mentorship and design guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs meet aerospace and defense reliability, environmental, and performance requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years designing power electronics for aerospace, defense, industrial, or other high-reliability applications.
  • Strong experience designing DC-DC power converters or closely related power conversion circuits.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (Cadence Allegro, Altium, or similar).
  • Experience using simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Mathcad, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices. MOSFET experience required; IGBT, SiC, and GaN experience is beneficial.
  • Experience supporting hardware through the full product lifecycle from architecture through qualification and production.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
  • Experience developing electronics for harsh-environment or space applications.
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant or radiation-hardened electronics.
  • Experience with motor control, reliability analysis (FMEA/MTBF), or system integration.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design reviews.
