Position Overview

Provident Data Centers is seeking a VP, Power Development to build out and lead behind-the-meter power development in support of Provident's hyperscale data center platform.

This role will report to the Managing Partner and will work closely with Provident's Hyperscale Data Center Development and land acquisition teams to identify and develop behind-the-meter power solutions, secure sites with strong power fundamentals, and build relationships with independent power producers (IPPs), utilities, and other participants across the power ecosystem.

This is a highly visible role for a success-driven power industry executive who thrives in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment and is excited to help build a new behind-the-meter power platform from the ground up.

Hyperscale & Site Collaboration
  • Partner with Provident's Hyperscale Data Center Development team to identify and develop behind-the-meter power solutions for hyperscale sites.
  • Work with Provident's land acquisition team to evaluate and help secure sites with favorable power fundamentals, including generation potential, fuel access, interconnection feasibility, and proximity to transmission.
  • Assess power generation options, including natural gas, renewables, and battery storage, for individual sites and across Provident's site portfolio.
IPP & Ecosystem Relationships
  • Develop and manage relationships with independent power producers (IPPs), utilities, EPCs, fuel suppliers, and other participants across the power generation ecosystem.
  • Build a broad network of executive relationships across the IPP and power industry to source and advance behind-the-meter power opportunities.
  • Represent Provident within the power and energy industry, including at industry conferences, forums, and other relationship-building venues.
Power Procurement & Deal Structuring
  • Lead the procurement of natural gas and other fuel supply ("molecules") required to support behind-the-meter generation.
  • Structure and negotiate power generation agreements, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), tolling agreements, and fuel supply contracts, in partnership with legal counsel.
  • Evaluate deal structure and economics, including capital costs, generation technology selection, and financing structure, to optimize project returns.
Business Development
  • Lead business development efforts for Provident's behind-the-meter power business, including sourcing new opportunities and cultivating relationships with prospective partners.
  • Collaborate with the Hyperscale Data Center Development team to position behind-the-meter power solutions for prospective hyperscale customers.
  • Track market trends, generation technology developments, and regulatory changes affecting behind-the-meter power development, and share insights with executive leadership.
Qualifications & Experience Education & Technical Foundation
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in power development, including generation, utility, or IPP experience.
  • Broad network of executive relationships across the IPP and power industry.
  • Knowledge of and background in the latest power generation technologies, including natural gas, renewables, and battery storage.
  • Experience structuring power generation deals, with a broad understanding of deal structure and associated economics.
  • Background in data centers or behind-the-meter power development preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-moving, rapidly evolving industry.
