Job description

TEKsystems has a contract to hire need for a Power BI Engineer and the role is mainly onsite in Fort Collins, Co.

Our customer is seeking a Senior Power BI Engineer / BI Visualization Lead to serve as the primary owner of the company's enterprise Power BI environment. This is a highly visible role supporting executive leadership, operational teams, and business stakeholders across the organization.

The Engineer will play a pivotal role in building and operationalizing the data infrastructure and visualization solutions necessary to power enterprise data initiatives, following industry standard practices and tools. This role carries dual priorities: designing and managing high-quality semantic models and delivering compelling, trusted data visualizations that drive decision-making across the enterprise.

The Engineer must guarantee compliance with data governance and data security requirements while creating, improving, and operationalizing integrated and semantic models and the visualization layers built on top of them. This includes ensuring that reports and dashboards meet enterprise standards for accuracy, performance, and accessibility — enabling faster data access, consistent metric definitions, and vastly improved time-to-solution for data and analytics initiatives.

Additionally, the Engineer will collaborate with data architects, data analysts, and other consumers to optimize models and algorithms for data quality, security, and governance, and put them into production. This collaboration extends to co-developing visualization solutions — including semantic models, self-service reporting frameworks, and executive-facing dashboards — that surface the outputs of those models in ways that drive meaningful business outcomes and potentially large productivity gains across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate is a Power BI expert who can translate business needs into meaningful dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that drive decision-making. This individual will help shape Power BI standards, expand self-service analytics capabilities, support enterprise reporting governance, and play a key role in the organization's transition to Microsoft Fabric.

This position supports a mature Power BI environments in the organization, with nearly 300 active users and executive leadership relying on Power BI dashboards as a critical source of business insight.

Candidate must be onsite in Ft. Collins office at least 2 - 3 days/week.

This will start as a contract role but the expectation is the engineer will convert to an FTE after approximately 6 months of contracting.

Job Duties:

• Serve as the primary subject matter expert for Power BI across the organization.

• Support and maintain executive-facing dashboards used by Senior leadership and ELT members.

• Design, develop, and enhance Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations.

• Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business questions into actionable reporting solutions.

• Ensure dashboard accuracy, performance, usability, and data consistency across reporting assets.

• Establish and promote Power BI best practices, standards, and governance.

• Help drive dashboard and dataset certification initiatives.

• Enable broader adoption of self-service reporting and analytics throughout the business.

• Coach and support business users and analysts in developing and publishing Power BI content aligned to enterprise standards.

• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Architects to ensure reporting solutions leverage trusted and governed data sources.

• Support the development and adoption of semantic models that improve data accessibility for business users and future AI-driven initiatives.

• Contribute to the organization's migration and adoption strategy for Microsoft Fabric.

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of experience designing and developing Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.

• Advanced expertise with Power BI visualization development, report design, and dashboard optimization.

• Strong experience gathering business requirements and working directly with stakeholders.

• Experience supporting enterprise reporting environments with broad user adoption.

• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and reporting best practices.

• Experience working with SQL and relational data sources.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with technical teams, business users, and executive leadership.

• Ability to balance strategic reporting initiatives with day-to-day support of critical business dashboards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric.

• Experience working with semantic models in Power BI or Fabric.

• Experience with data governance, dataset certification, and reporting standards.

• Exposure to Azure Data Factory or other modern cloud data platforms.

• Prior experience supporting executive-level reporting and KPI dashboards.

• Exposure to AI-enabled analytics or semantic layer development.

Within the first 6 months, this individual will:

• Become the primary owner of the organization's Power BI reporting environment.

• Maintain and enhance executive dashboards relied upon by company leadership.

• Improve dashboard governance and certification processes.

• Help expand enterprise-wide data consumption and self-service reporting capabilities.

• Support the rollout and adoption of semantic models and Microsoft Fabric initiatives.

• Serve as a trusted partner to both executive stakeholders and business teams seeking actionable insights from data.
