POSITION SUMMARY
Seeking a skilled Power BI Developer / Senior Data Analyst to support its data visualization and analytics program. The selected resource will design and build complex dimensional data models and reports, visualize compelling data stories on the Power BI report canvas, and collaborate cross-functionally to engineer agency-wide data solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Modeling & Report Development
Design and build complex dimensional data models from the bottom up, ensuring scalability and alignment with agency data standards.
Develop and publish Power BI reports and dashboards incorporating best practices for data accuracy and visual clarity.
Data Visualization & Storytelling
Visualize compelling data stories on the Power BI report canvas for diverse stakeholder audiences.
Design interactive dashboards that enable TEA stakeholders to explore and interpret data with confidence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with TEA business and IT teams to engineer agency-wide data solutions.
Develop and implement end-to-end data visualization solutions, from requirements through deployment.
Data Quality & Analysis
Analyze data using standard statistical tools to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
Identify and resolve data gaps, errors, and inconsistencies; clean and prepare data for analysis.
Prepare concise technical reports presenting findings, alternatives, and recommendations.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or reporting.
Demonstrated hands-on experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, and dimensional data models.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling.
Strong SQL skills; familiarity with data warehousing concepts and relational database technologies.
Knowledge of data models, database design, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
Experience working with structured and unstructured data from disparate source systems.
Soft Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present findings to non-technical audiences.
Collaborative mindset with demonstrated ability to work across teams and functional areas.
High attention to detail and commitment to data quality and analytical rigor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a Texas state agency or public-sector environment.
Familiarity with education data or student information systems.
Experience with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL) as Power BI data sources.
Microsoft Power BI certification (PL-300 or equivalent).
Project Management experience (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.
