Position Overview

The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicineinthe College of Veterinary Medicine atThe OhioState University is seeking a12-monthClinicalAssistant orClinicalAssociateProfessor.Theprimary responsibilities will betoteach poultry and preventive medicinewithin veterinary and graduate school curriculaandtoleadoutreach efforts in support of Ohio's poultry producers and veterinarians.Faculty effort isanticipatedto beapproximately evenlydivided between teaching and outreach,with smaller portions of the appointment devoted to scholarly activity and professional or academic service. Thespecificdistribution of effortwillbe adjusted to reflect the strengths and interests of the successfulcandidate but will remainpredominantly teachingand outreach.This position ispartof a larger hiring effort within the College of Veterinary Medicineto supportthecreation ofa Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases as acomponentof theProtect OHIO initiative(https://vet.osu.edu/about/Protect-OHIO).

Teachingresponsibilitieswill include poultry health and production topics within the preclinical and clinical DVM curriculum.Additionalteachingwill includetopicssuch as animal welfare, food safety, infectious diseases, or other components of veterinary preventive medicine, withspecifictopicstailored to thestrengths of the candidate.Outreach responsibilitieswill center on fostering connections among poultry veterinarians, regulatory agencies, and the academic community, while working directly with producers across Ohio. Strong communication skills are essential, and the successful candidate willneedthe flexibility needed to engage with diverse poultry production systems across Ohio(backyard, mid-sized, and large commercialflocks)andhave the abilitytotailor messages to a wide range of audiences, including students, producers, veterinarians, academic colleagues, and regulatory agencies.The faculty member will develop, deliver, and evaluate outreach programs that providetimely, science-based, and prevention-focusedinformation directly to producers at locations across Ohio. The duties will additionally include coordination with diagnostic laboratories and producers for on-farm investigations and support for Ohio private practitioners working with poultry producers.The primary focus of this position is teaching and outreach. However, in response to stakeholder interest in enhanced veterinary support for small- and mid-sized poultry producers, there may be opportunities for the successful candidate to help develop clinical or consultative service activitiesunder the umbrella ofThe Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. Engagement in clinical service is not a requirement of the position; rather, thiscomponentwould be developed only if aligned with the interests,expertise, and career goals of the selected candidate.The successful candidate will additionally serve as an important collaborator forresearch andprovide service to the College and the veterinary profession.

Performance Objectives

• Deliver highquality instruction in poultry health, production systems, and preventive medicine for veterinary and graduate students.

• Lead statewide outreach that providestimely, sciencebased guidance to poultry producers and veterinarians across diverse production systems.

• Mentor graduate and veterinary students to cultivate and foster interest in poultryveterinarymedicine.

• Support poultry health and disease prevention by buildingandmaintainingstrong partnerships with producers, private practitioners, diagnostic laboratories,other academiccolleagues,and regulatory agencies.

• Conduct onfarmassessmentsand coordinate diagnostic support to address poultry health concerns throughout Ohio.

• Contribute to applied and collaborative research aligned withareas of interestfrom CVMfaculty membersand the Protect OHIO initiative.

• Establish trustedrelationships withsmallandmidsized producers that integrate with the outreach and teaching expectations for the position.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent) degree

• Strong communicationskills

• Relevant experience working with poultry systems as a veterinarian

Desired:

• Advanced degree and/ortraining (e.g., MS, MPH, PhD, residency program)

• Eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio

• Prior experienceteaching students

• Familiarity withfoodanimal production systems in North American contexts

• Board certification in a relevant veterinary specialty(e.g., ACPV, ACVPM)

• Prior experience delivering education/training to veterinarians and/or producers

• Experience working with producers, industry,and stakeholder groups, with evidence of successfully meeting goals and collaborative outputs

• Bilingual (Spanish)
