POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position within the SHINElab (Smart Human-centered built eNvironmEnt lab for Sustainability, Resilience, and Wellbeing).
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual with a strong background in fault detection and diagnosis, machine learning, and district energy systems.
The SHINElab is an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to advancing innovation at the intersection of technology, engineering, and human well-being. The successful candidate will contribute to developing novel data-driven smart building solutions for high performance building systems.
Responsibilities and Expertise
Candidates should demonstrate expertise and experience in the following areas:
  • Coding and AI/machine learning strategy development - with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate data-driven or AI-based strategies.
  • Building and district energy system fault detection and diagnosis, and other smart building strategies.
  • Graduate student mentorship - providing technical and professional guidance to graduate research assistants while fostering an inclusive and collaborative research environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as this position involves collaboration across disciplines, preparation of research reports and publications, and communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
The successful candidate will join a diverse, multidisciplinary team and play an active role in shaping the research direction of SHINElab. Responsibilities will include leading research on emerging technologies, publishing and presenting research findings, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to proposal development and reporting to project sponsors.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
