What is a postdoctoral machine learning?

A Postdoctoral Machine Learning job is a research-focused position for individuals who have recently earned a Ph.D. in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related field. It typically involves conducting advanced research, publishing papers, collaborating with academic or industry partners, and developing novel algorithms or models. These roles are often hosted by universities, research institutes, or tech companies. The position helps researchers gain additional expertise and contribute to cutting-edge advancements before transitioning to faculty, industry, or independent research roles.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a postdoctoral machine learning researcher?

A Postdoctoral Machine Learning researcher typically spends their day designing and implementing machine learning algorithms, analyzing experimental results, and preparing manuscripts for publication. They often collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers, attend lab meetings, and contribute to grant writing or project proposals. Regular activities also include keeping up with recent scientific literature, mentoring graduate or undergraduate students, and presenting research findings at conferences or seminars. The blend of technical development and scientific communication makes each day dynamic and offers opportunities to influence both academia and industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a postdoctoral machine learning position?

To thrive as a Postdoctoral Machine Learning researcher, you need a strong background in machine learning theory, statistical analysis, and programming, typically supported by a Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field. Experience with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and advanced data analytics tools is highly valued, as are relevant publications and experience with version control systems like Git. Strong problem-solving abilities, clear communication skills, and effective teamwork are crucial to excel in collaborative research settings. These skills and qualities are essential to drive innovative research, efficiently navigate complex datasets, and contribute to impactful scientific discoveries.

Job description

๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿฉป Weโ€™re hiring postdoctoral fellows in the Bai Lab at the University of Colorado Anschutz! ๐Ÿค– ๐Ÿšจ

We have several exciting projects, growing datasets and collaborations, and funding to support talented postdoctoral researchers interested in developing and translating AI for medical imaging and healthcare.

We are looking for highly motivated scientists who want to work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and clinical medicine.

Our research spans a broad range of areas, including:

๐Ÿ”น Medical imaging AI and deep learning

๐Ÿ”น Multimodal AI integrating imaging, clinical, and other health data

๐Ÿ”น Large language models and vision-language models in medicine

๐Ÿ”น AI across radiology and a broad range of clinical applications

๐Ÿ”น Prediction, prognosis, and longitudinal disease modeling

๐Ÿ”น Clinical validation and real-world deployment of AI systems

๐Ÿ”น Large-scale medical imaging datasets and multi-institutional studies

We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, machine learning, data science, or related quantitative fields.

You do not need to have experience in every area above. We are especially interested in people who can bring complementary expertise, strong technical skills, and new ideas to the lab. Strong candidates should have solid quantitative or computational skills, a track record of research productivity, and genuine interest in developing AI methods that address meaningful clinical problems.

Our lab is based in the Department of Radiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, with opportunities for close collaboration with physicians, scientists, and investigators across clinical departments and institutions.

๐ŸŒŽ International applicants are welcome. For the right candidate, H-1B visa sponsorship is available.

๐Ÿ“ Interested? Please send me your CV and a brief description of your research background, interests, and what you would like to work on as a postdoc. Candidates whose interests align well with our work will be invited for an initial conversation.

We are interested not only in what you have done, but also in what expertise you can bring to the lab and what you hope to build next.

๐Ÿงฌ Please share this announcement with your network or anyone who might be a great fit!
