This is a unique role, which will span Materials and Process Engineering and focus on materials and processes for Blue's advanced engine program. This role will directly impact design and manufacturability of engine hardware, ultimately contributing to lowering the cost of access to space.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and qualify materials and processes for engine applications

  • Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to design, qualify and implement specialized materials

  • Lead material selection and trades for new designs

  • Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing, and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures

  • Develop materials test plans for selected materials and assemblies

  • Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle

  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities for cost and lead time reductions

Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree or higher in Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field

  • 7+ years' of direct experience in materials and processes

  • Experience providing M&P guidance across product lifecycle

  • Working knowledge of metallic materials including steels, stainless steels, Ci-based alloys and copper

  • Experience working with various non-metallics such as epoxies, potting materials, adhesives

  • Experience with joining and joint design for adhesive bonding, welding, brazing, and fastening

Desired:
  • Advanced degree in relevant discipline.

  • In-depth understanding of materials/ process relationships across a broad range of alloys and materials

  • Familiarity with a range of manufacturing processes (additive, casting, forging) and their impact on material properties

  • Experience with maintenance, repair, and overhaul on complex hardware or systems

  • Experience setting up and qualifying new manufacturing equipment and/or processes

  • Understanding of, and ability to work too, relevant quality and design codes and standards.

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
