What is a postdoctoral position in Bayesian statistics?

A Postdoctoral position in Bayesian Statistics is a research-focused role for individuals who have recently completed their PhD in statistics, mathematics, or a related field. These positions involve conducting advanced research using Bayesian methods, which apply probability to infer statistical conclusions. Postdocs often work on developing new Bayesian models, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, and publishing research findings. Such positions are typically temporary and designed to further prepare researchers for academic, industry, or governmental roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a postdoctoral researcher in Bayesian statistics?

To thrive as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Bayesian Statistics, you need an advanced degree (typically a PhD) in statistics or a related field, with strong expertise in Bayesian inference and probabilistic modeling. Proficiency with statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or Stan, and experience with specialized Bayesian analysis software are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving skills, collaboration, and the ability to communicate complex statistical concepts clearly are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for conducting rigorous research, publishing impactful results, and contributing effectively to scientific teams.

What are some common challenges faced by postdoctoral researchers in Bayesian statistics, and how can they be addressed?

Postdoctoral researchers in Bayesian statistics often encounter challenges such as managing complex, high-dimensional data, staying current with rapidly evolving computational methods, and balancing independent research with collaborative projects. Effective strategies include leveraging open-source statistical software, actively participating in seminars and workshops to stay updated, and establishing regular communication with interdisciplinary teams. Building a strong professional network and seeking mentorship within the department can also help in navigating research obstacles and advancing one's career.

Position

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Senior Manager, Biostatistics to join our talented team. The successful candidate will contribute their statistical expertise and strategic thinking to the design, execution, and analysis of clinical trials and experimental studies. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will lead statistical efforts that facilitate evidence-based conclusions and guide our research and development initiatives.

About You

The ideal candidate for this role should possess a proven track record of designing and analyzing clinical trials and experimental studies, particularly within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related industries. This candidate excels in leading interdisciplinary teams to design studies, developing statistical analysis plans, performing advanced statistical analyses, and providing guidance to team members. Their proficiency in statistical programming languages, understanding of regulatory guidelines, and excellent communication skills are essential for conveying complex statistical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate also demonstrates leadership capabilities and a deep knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in biostatistics, statistical tools, and software.

What You'll Do

ย  ย Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design clinical trials, experiments, and studies, ensuring appropriate statistical methodologies are employed.
ย  ย Lead the development of statistical analysis plans, including endpoints, sample size determination, randomization strategies, and statistical methodologies.
ย  ย Perform advanced statistical analyses on complex datasets, interpreting results and drawing actionable conclusions.
ย  ย Provide guidance and mentorship to biostatisticians and statistical programmers within the team.
ย  ย Contribute to regulatory submissions by providing statistical expertise and preparing relevant sections of documents.
ย  ย Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in biostatistics and their application in the biotechnology field.
ย  ย Drive the implementation and utilization of advanced statistical tools and software.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in statistics/biostatistics or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of clinical research and drug development experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant work experience.
  • Deep, hands-on proficiency in R within the Posit/RStudio ecosystem (R Markdown, Shiny, tidyverse).
  • Substantial oncology trial experience - familiarity with standard oncology designs and endpoints (RECIST, dose-escalation/optimization designs such as BOIN, biomarker-driven subgroup work).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own the full analysis lifecycle, from raw data through exploratory analysis to finished output.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines (ICH, FDA, etc.) and experience authoring statistical analysis plans and reporting via tables, listings, and figures.
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics and adaptive trial designs (e.g., BOIN-type dose-escalation, dose-optimization frameworks).
  • Excellent communication skills, including translating statistical findings for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • Experience contributing statistical analysis to peer-reviewed clinical publications or conference presentations (e.g., trial results manuscripts, oncology conference abstracts and posters).

At Eikon, employee compensation also includes bonus and equity compensation, in addition to several generous benefit programs, including:

  • 401k plan with company matching
  • Medical (premiums covered by Eikon at 95%), dental and vision insurance (premiums covered by Eikon at 100%)
  • Mental health and wellness benefits
  • Weeklong summer and winter holiday shutdowns
  • Generous paid time off and holiday policies
  • Life/AD&D Insurance (premiums covered by Eikon at 100%) and optional supplemental employee-paid life/AD&D policies
  • Enhanced parental leave benefit
  • Daily subsidized lunch program when on-site
