Maximum Salary
What You Will Do
The Quantum and Condensed Matter Physics Group (T-4) in the Theoretical Division, together with the Center for
Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory, invites applications for a postdoctoral
research position. We seek outstanding candidates with expertise in the theory and modeling of optical and
photonic phenomena in low-dimensional hybrid nanoscale semiconductor heterostructures. Emphasis will be
placed on understanding and exploiting enhancements of the optical properties facilitated by the dielectric
environment, including photonic and plasmonic cavities, photonic crystals, and waveguides. The successful
candidate will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary team of theorists and experimentalists working at the interface of
fundamental science and emerging applications. This position offers exceptional opportunities for cross-
disciplinary collaboration, participation in scientific workshops, and attendance at major conferences

within the last 5 years or to be completed soon.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the following:
  • Theoretical/computational quantum optics, nanophotonics, or nanoplasmonics.
  • Experience in theory and modeling of optical properties of nanostructured semiconductors.
  • The ability to work creatively and independently as well as learn and collaborate with experts as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, as evidenced by publications, cover letter, and interview.

Desired Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum requirements, the following qualifications are desired, and preference will be given
to candidates satisfying (at least one) of them:
  • Experience in classical and/or quantum electrodynamic theory and modeling of photonic /plasmonic nanostructures.
  • Experience in applying electronic structure calculation techniques to evaluate optical properties of nano-structured semiconductors.
