Using advanced technology, CRC's workforce of approximately 2,500 employees and contractors focuses on safely and responsibly supplying affordable energy for California by Californians.
The CRC Automation Team is seeking to fill a Network Engineer position to support company-wide operations and assets. This role will be based out of the Bakersfield, CA office.
The base annual salary for this posted position is reasonably expected to range from $100K to $165K, with a target annual bonus of 10-20% of base salary and eligibility to participate in our long-term incentive program. Individual pay decisions are based on several factors, including education, experience level and relevant industry experience. Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, maintain, and support network and communications infrastructure across field and corporate environments.
  • Provide reliable connectivity and infrastructure services for operational and business-critical applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network, communications, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Support the infrastructure that enables operational systems and field technologies, including systems connected to industrial and process-control environments.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain licensed and unlicensed radio communication systems supporting field operations and remote connectivity requirements.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance and implement improvements to enhance reliability, availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with telecommunications providers, equipment vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in project planning, implementation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure infrastructure solutions comply with company security, operational, and reliability requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operations, engineering, and IT personnel.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school degree and minimum five years of experience in radio communications or computer networks. Alternatively, bachelor's degree in telecommunications or network related disciplines.
  • Experience in programming or configuring data radio or network equipment is required
  • Experience with programming Cisco Switches, creating Vlans and understanding both Communications and IT network structure.
  • Must be able to work closely with IT department in design and implementation of complex networks.
  • Must have experience with fiber networks and function, termination of fiber, Cat 6 and copper setups.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance management practices.
  • The candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills, with ability to interact with team members at various levels in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Must be able to coordinate work with contractors and handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using computer tools for office and technical applications is a must.
  • The candidate must understand the importance of keeping documentation up to date.
  • Must be able to perform work under minimum supervision.
  • Must have a valid CA Driver's license & a clean DMV.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer Networking, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP networks is highly desired
  • Knowledge of two-way voice radio systems is not required but would be a plus
  • General knowledge of field instrumentation, SCADA systems and OPC communication protocol would be a plus
  • Familiarity with automation and electrical industry standards is highly desirable.
  • Thorough understanding of various radio types and applications - Cambium, Inet, Freewave, Canopy
