Job description

About Karius

Karius is a life science, venture-backed clinical metagenomics company, focused on elevating patient care through microbial insights. We are committed to advancing diagnostic science and technology to optimize the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Through the use of genomics and AI, we are driven to improve the diagnostic landscape for infectious diseases. Karius delivers unprecedented diagnostic insight detecting microbial cell-free DNA circulating in the body to assist physicians to make rapid treatment decisions.

Position Summary

The Associate Clinical Sales Manager (ACSM) is a junior, field-based commercial role responsible for owning a defined book of business within approximately a 3-hour drivable territory. This role operates at the front of the sales cycle generating leads, securing first meetings, onboarding net-new accounts, and driving early activation and reorder. The Associate CSM works in close coordination with the overseeing CSM/Sr. CSM and the Inside Sales Representative (ISR) to ensure seamless handoffs, complementary territory coverage, and consistent pipeline activity. This position is designed as a development role and pathway to promotion into a full CSM seat, and is open to high-potential individuals who are motivated by a clear advancement trajectory and willing to relocate when opportunities arise. Karius provides formal sales training on our products, their clinical applications, and how they impact patient care.

Why Should You Join Us?

Karius aims to conquer infectious diseases through innovations around genomic sequencing and machine learning. The company's platform is already delivering unprecedented insights into the microbial landscape, providing clinicians with a comprehensive test capable of identifying more than a thousand pathogens directly from blood, and helping industry accelerate the development of therapeutic solutions. The products Karius offers today are some of the most advanced solutions available to physicians who aim to deliver better care to many otherwise ineffectively treated patients. Our tests are the result of some incredible work done by our scientists, statisticians, engineers, and physicians, all driven by the same mission. You, as part of the Karius team, will be able to see how directly your work has a life-changing impact on people, and at scale.

Reports to: Regional Sales Director with a dotted-line to an overseeing CSM/Sr. CSM

Location:  Greater Fort Lauderdale area, with knowledge and experience in the greater metropolitan area health systems.

Primary Responsibilities

Book and Territory Ownership

Own a defined book of business within approximately a 3-hour drivable radius; build and execute a localized account plan that segments targets by opportunity size and readiness.

Maintain an active Salesforce pipeline tied to adoption milestones; use data and tools (e.g., DHC) to prioritize field activity and time allocation.

Lead Generation

Generate leads and secure or facilitate first meetings for the book of business owned by the overseeing CSM.

Route and brief appointments so the CSM can convert; coordinate at the regional level to ensure field effort complements rather than duplicates ISR and CSM activity.

New Account Creation & Onboarding

Design and execute localized prospecting to identify and qualify high-potential targets within the territory radius.

Secure first meetings and introductory conversations; onboard net-new accounts and lead them through the first order - net-new creation is shared with the ISR team by design.

Account Activation & Reorder Growth

Convert first orders into routine, sustained ordering; drive reorder behavior and habit formation across newly active accounts.

Expand the number of ordering providers within each account; systematically identify and remove ordering friction - including workflow, result delivery, and follow-up barriers.

Relationship Building & Account Networking

Cultivate relationships with lab directors, infectious disease physicians, pharmacists, and ordering clinicians at the frontline and lab tier.

Lead consultative, evidence-based conversations that connect Karius Spectrum and Focus BAL to the account's clinical context; identify and develop internal champions to advance adoption.

Field Partnership & Handoffs

Accept the ISR handoff at the meeting-to-usage transition; partner with the MSL on clinical education in a support capacity.

As onboarded accounts reach sustained-active status (12 tests/quarter), graduate them to the overseeing CSM or carry them into an earned territory upon promotion.

Goal Attainment & Field Discipline

Align personal performance to regional team goals; hold self accountable for activity, pipeline, and activation commitments.

Document all customer interactions in Salesforce; proactively share field intelligence and market insights with ISR, CSM, and regional leadership.

What's Fun About the Job?

Karius is operating at the edge of what is now known to be possible in diagnostics. With that, comes a wave of new and incredible challenges and opportunities. To deliver on that value, you will be tapping into some of the most advanced technologies, architecting and innovating where the current solutions simply don't suffice. You will get to see how much your work really matters.

Travel: Significant field travel required (up to 75%)

Physical Requirements

This is a field-based role requiring regular travel within a defined territory. Subject to extended periods of driving, standing, and walking in clinical and lab settings. Must be able to carry and transport promotional and educational materials. Work is performed in a variety of environments, including hospitals, medical offices, and clinical laboratories. Moderate to significant noise levels in some settings. Visual acuity required for screen-based tools and documentation.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA a plus.

  • 1-2 years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, diagnostics, or a related field, plus completed sales training or certification from a recognized program; or 3+ years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, diagnostics, or a related field.

  • Sales training, certification, or coursework is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a territory, maintain a CRM pipeline, and execute a field-based account plan.

  • Proficiency with Salesforce or comparable CRM platforms.

  • Ability to relocate is a condition of the role; candidates must be open to relocation into a CSM territory when a seat becomes available.

  • Valid driver's license.

Personal Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills; able to build credibility with clinical and lab audiences at the frontline and institutional level.

  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve friction points within an account

  • Self-directed and accountable; demonstrates field discipline and structured follow-through without close supervision.

  • High growth orientation - motivated by a defined career path and eager to earn increased scope through demonstrated performance.

  • Collaborative team player; skilled at coordinating cross-functionally with ISR, CSM, and MSL partners without duplicating effort.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth commercial environment.

  • Embodies Karius values: patient-centric, intellectually curious, team-oriented, and driven by impact.
