Description
The Pederick Lab in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team studying the development and function of the central auditory system. This position offers the opportunity to investigate the molecular mechanisms that establish precise neural circuit architecture and to determine how alterations in circuit organization affect neural activity and sensory processing.
The successful candidate will contribute to an exciting interdisciplinary project that combines approaches from developmental neuroscience, molecular biology, and systems neuroscience. The research will use a range of techniques, including but not limited to molecular genetics, neural circuit traciPong, fluorescent imaging, and in vivo electrophysiology.
We are looking for a creative, collaborative scientist with strong motivation to pursue mechanistic questions in neural development and circuit function.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to:
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on the development and organization of central auditory circuits
  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments using molecular, anatomical, and physiological approaches
  • Present findings in lab meetings, scientific conferences, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Contribute to the mentorship of trainees in the lab, as appropriate
  • Participate in a collaborative and intellectually engaging research environment

  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grants, and fellowship applications

Qualifications
Required:
  • A completed PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, biology, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to publish and communicate scientific research effectively
  • Strong interest in neural development, neural circuit organization, and sensory systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with researchers from diverse disciplines and backgrounds

Preferred:
  • Experience in the techniques listed above and/or related techniques
  • Experience mentoring or training undergraduate, master's, and/or graduate students
  • Evidence of success in applying for research grants, fellowships, or other science-related funding
