Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Nutrition Sciences in the Schools of Health Professions and Medicine, is seeking a doctorally-prepared scientist with track records in studying the relationships among obesity, nutrition, and cancer. Appointments at the rank of Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor are being considered, with rank and tenure status based on qualifications. Candidates must have an MD, DrPH, or PhD. Successful senior candidates will be expected to demonstrate a track record of a sustained program of research in this area, including mentoring of junior faculty and trainees.
Recruited faculty will play an active role in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Department of Nutrition Sciences has 25 full-time faculty members and more than 100 staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows involved in basic, animal, physiologic, clinical, and community-based research, patient care, and teaching. The department has a robust portfolio of extramural research funding, hosts both the NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the Diabetes Research Center and has a heavy involvement in the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Department has long-standing distinguished programs in obesity & nutrition patient care, a broad portfolio of nutrition education, and a dietetic internship. UAB is a flourishing urban university and medical center with research funding exceeding $700 million.
