REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive, responsible experience within a post-secondary disability services or accessibility resources framework.
- Demonstrated, deep working knowledge of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related federal and state guidelines governing equal access in higher education.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills, with a proven ability to engage with diverse populations, resolve student grievances, and collaborate across complex academic divisions.
Education
- Bachelorโs degree required, Masterโs degree preferred, from an accredited college or university in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Disability Studies, Behavioral Sciences, or a closely related field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Access Operations & Advanced Case Management
- Interactive Process: Oversee and directly participate in the interactive intake, evaluation, and documentation review process to determine eligibility and assign reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Comprehensive Service Delivery: Ensure timely and equitable delivery of critical auxiliary services, including accommodated exam proctoring, alternative text production, note-taking services, sign language interpreters, and peer assistants.
- Advocacy & Outreach: Maintain a visible, accessible presence for current and prospective students and families, providing ongoing case management, academic/personal consultation, and guidance on the universityโs capacity to support individual accessibility needs.
Strategic Leadership, Policy, and Compliance
- Vision and Direction: Provide strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and long-term planning of a comprehensive, student-centered approach to disability accessibility that aligns with university retention and success goals.
- Regulatory Oversight: Serve as the primary institutional expert and advisor on student disability access, compliance, and risk management. Ensure absolute compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, FERPA, and other applicable laws.
- Policy Development: Develop, interpret, and regularly review institutional policies and procedures regarding academic and non-academic disability-related accommodations, ensuring they maintain academic integrity while protecting student rights.
- Data and Assessment: Establish and oversee systems for secure data collection, reporting, and analysis to evaluate program effectiveness, monitor accommodation trends, and inform institutional updates.
- Fiscal Accountability: Manage the departmental operating budget and efficiently allocate financial and operational resources for approved student accommodations, auxiliary aids, and part-time service contracts.
Campus Collaboration and Training Outreach
- Systemic Barrier Removal: Partner with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Facilities to identify and address systemic physical, structural, and design barriers to access across campus.
- Educational Programming: Champion campus-wide education by developing and delivering workshops, resource materials, and signature transition initiatives for faculty and staff focused on equitable instructional practices and disability advocacy.
- Universal Design: Collaborate with academic affairs to provide tools and guidance to faculty regarding universal design for learning (UDL) and inclusive pedagogy. Represent the office on high-level institutional committees.
Technology and Accessibility Innovation
- System Administration: Provide primary database administration for electronic case management systems to appropriately track student records, assign accommodations, and streamline faculty notifications.
- Assistive Technology: Oversee the evaluation, implementation, procurement, and training of assistive and adaptive technologies for students, proactively staying ahead of emerging trends like AI in digital learning environments.
- Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s).
- Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
