Job description

Perm Staff Jobs is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Post Partum for a nursing job in Pooler, Georgia.

Job Description & Requirements
  • Specialty: Post Partum
  • Discipline: RN
  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Employment Type: Staff
RN Mother-Baby

As a Mother Baby Registered Nurse at HCA Memorial Health University Medical Center in historic Savannah, GA, your voice to influence patient care is valued and empowered at every turn –whether through open, collaborative relationships with your direct manager or more formal opportunities through hospital councils and national nursing initiatives. You'll help shape decisions that elevate both patient outcomes and the future of nursing.

Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Mother/Baby Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for caring for both postpartum mothers and their newborns, typically during the first 24 to 72 hours after delivery. You will monitor vital signs, assist with physical recovery, provide lactation support, and teach parents essential newborn care before they go home.
Mother-baby RNs perform a unique dual-patient role. Instead of caring for a mother or baby separately, they manage a "couplet" to ensure both the mother's recovery and the infant's health are progressing safely.

Daily Responsibilities include:

    • Maternal Care: Monitoring the mother's uterine healing, assessing surgical incisions (for C-sections), managing pain, and screening for postpartum complications like hemorrhage or mood disorders.

    • Newborn Assessments: Checking the baby's vital signs, weight, and blood sugar, performing routine blood draws, and assisting with the baby’s first bath.

    • Patient Education: Teaching new parents how to bathe their baby, change diapers, swaddle, and safely feed the infant.

    • Breastfeeding Support: Helping mothers with latching, positioning, and milk expression, while troubleshooting common breastfeeding challenges.

    • Emotional Support: Acting as a reassuring presence to help families bond and adjust to the significant life change of a new baby.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Neonate Resuscitation must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • STABLE must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse - clear and active GA or compact state license required
  • ASN/BSN required
  • At least one year of Womens Services/Mother Baby Nursing required
