Position Car T Cell information

What is a position CAR T Cell?

Position Car T Cell jobs typically refer to roles involved in the research, development, and clinical application of CAR T cell therapies. These positions can include scientists, clinicians, laboratory technicians, and manufacturing specialists who work on engineering T cells with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) to target and treat certain cancers. Professionals in these roles are responsible for tasks such as designing CAR constructs, conducting laboratory experiments, managing clinical trials, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The field requires a strong background in immunology, cell biology, and biotechnology. Because CAR T cell therapy is rapidly evolving, staying up to date with the latest scientific advancements is essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CAR T Cell therapy specialist?

To thrive as a CAR T Cell Therapy Specialist, you need a solid background in cellular biology, immunology, and clinical laboratory techniques, usually supported by a degree in life sciences or medical technology. Expertise with specialized cell processing equipment, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, and familiarity with regulatory documentation are typically required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure the safe, precise manufacturing and administration of CAR T therapies, directly impacting patient outcomes and regulatory compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by CAR T Cell therapists during patient care, and how can these be managed?

CAR T Cell Therapists often encounter challenges such as managing severe and unpredictable side effects, including cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. These complications require close monitoring and rapid response, often in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment involving physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. Effective communication and adherence to established clinical protocols are essential for patient safety and positive outcomes. Continuous education and teamwork are key to staying updated on the latest treatment guidelines and best practices in this rapidly evolving field.

Job description

Position Overview

The Choi Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral researcher to investigate how environmental signals and epigenetic programs shape pathogenic T-cell responses in autoimmune disease. Our research combines functional immunology with genomic and epigenomic approaches to uncover the mechanisms that drive systemic lupus erythematosus and other immune-mediated diseases.

The successful candidate will work alongside experimental, computational, and clinical collaborators to identify disease-driving pathways and translate mechanistic discoveries into new immune-modulating therapies. Projects will span fundamental T-cell biology, chromatin regulation, functional genomics, and therapeutic discovery, with the long-term goal of advancing promising treatments toward first-in-human studies at UT Southwestern.

This position is particularly well suited for researchers seeking rigorous scientific training at the intersection of immunology, epigenetics, genomics, and translational medicine, with preparation for careers in academia, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, or therapeutic development.

Research Focus

The successful candidate will investigate the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate immune-cell behavior, with particular emphasis on:

  • Environmental and epigenetic regulation of pathogenic T-cell responses
  • T-cell biology and immune regulation in systemic lupus erythematosus and related autoimmune diseases
  • Chromatin dynamics and transcriptional regulation in immune cells
  • Epigenetic mechanisms relevant to autoimmune disease and neurodegeneration
  • Translation of mechanistic discoveries into new immune-modulating therapies

Why Join the Choi Laboratory at UT Southwestern?

Members of the Choi Laboratory work at the interface of mechanistic discovery and therapeutic development. The laboratory's autoimmune research program investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenic T cells in diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, using epigenetic approaches and functional screening to identify key transcriptional drivers and potential strategies for reprogramming harmful immune-cell states.

Through the Center for Cellular Therapies and Cancer Immunology, researchers work within a multidisciplinary environment that brings together immunologists and cell, protein, genome, and chemical engineers to develop effective and safe immunotherapies for cancer, autoimmune disease, and other conditions. The Center is specifically focused on translating promising discoveries into therapies that can progress toward first-in-human studies at UT Southwestern and beyond.

UT Southwestern provides postdoctoral researchers with access to advanced shared research resources, structured training, career-development programs, interdisciplinary collaboration, and comprehensive benefits. Postdoctoral scholars can also participate in certificate programs, professional-development workshops, entrepreneurial resources, and individualized career advising.

Candidates must hold a recent Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field. Experience with epigenetic techniques (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq), strong background in molecular biology, proficiency in flow cytometry leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals is recommended. Preferred skills include experience with mouse models, bioinformatics skills (R, Python), background in T cell immunology, and a publication record in immunology/epigenetics.

Please read recent manuscripts published in the last two years.
