Job Summary
Manage a portfolio of predominately high risk projects and/or a large program of projects, and/or supervise other Project/Program Managers and Asst Project/Program Managers in managing, multiple intermediate and complex projects or program of projects within a matrix team environment. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short and long range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction. Develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers. Perform supervisory duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Job Description
What you'll do:
  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and oversee assigned project or program activities as well as provide direct or indirect supervision of others leading these activities.
  • Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Commitment to Zero Harm".
  • Responsible for development, review, and coordination of the project or program analysis, project plan, schedule, budget, and effectively managing cost and reallocation of funding.
  • Effectively communicate project/program details and status updates. Lead planning meetings and project updates including detailed and complex stakeholder presentations. Provide clear and concise written reportings.
  • Develop and actively manage working relationships with project/program team members, internal and external customers or partners, contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Foster teamwork and actively monitor customer satisfaction.
  • Provide wide range of detailed guidance, instruction, and training to others to improve design, systems, processes, procedures, schedules, and costs. Confidently challenge others at a high level of informed understanding in all project work.
  • Ensure maximum customer satisfaction and demonstrate effective and efficient performance of project/program work activities on all responsible projects. Provide clarity, support, and accountability to enable others' success.
  • Meet with customers, vendors, and regulators as required to achieve project/program objectives.

What we're looking for:
Transmission Program Manager SG10
Education:
  • Bachelor Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business discipline, Project Manager or related field of study.

Experience:
  • Minimum of ten years of experience including one or more of the following: major construction field experience; financial management and analysis; portfolio or project management; project estimating; project controls; and/or comparable experience in a major construction field or competitive production environment.
  • Demonstrated success in portfolio, project and/or program management with proficient business acumen.
  • Preferred at least two years of leadership experience.

In addition:
  • Physical demand level is Sedentary
  • Provide effective leadership, team building and meeting management as outlined in PMBOK and the AEP leadership and values. Demonstrate a very high level of ability, motivation, and attitude in leading a team, program, project, and those supervised to success.
  • Lead development of asset strategy and management functions including the development of an optimized asset inventory.
  • Lead development of asset requirements of all subscribers from initial contact through final asset requirement definition.
  • Lead development and maintenance of analytical tools required to calculate the asset and inventory requirements
  • Actively participate in the negotiations of commercial terms with vendors to ensure that contractual terms achieve asset strategy goals.
  • Effective and compelling communication, including the use of effective listening, with all internal and external stakeholders including team members, management, senior management customers and board members.
  • Apply statistical and economic analysis techniques and business acumen in project decision making and ensure alignment of project and company financial goals.
  • Influence the warehouse, logistics and equipment technical specifications that provide cost-effective asset execution plans.
  • Provide strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment and prioritization of project activities. Globally view the project from all angles including financial, commercial, regulatory and operational perspectives to develop asset recommendations.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage conflict to provide solutions to issues that maximize synergy's with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company. Take timely independent action and offer recommendations to management for resolution of elevated issues.
  • Act with integrity by demonstrating accountability for project assignments. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams to plan and execute projects.
  • Seek input from Subject Matter Experts by asking the right questions, understanding the nuances, clarifying and validating information, and not relying on one's own knowledge base or assumptions. Sensitize experts to influences they have on the project key parameters of project budget, scope, schedule, and risk.
