M&J is actively seeking a Resident Engineer to work as part of our distinguished team, on complex construction projects based in the Massachusetts area. Our clients include the Massachusetts Port Authority (MassPort) and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

Responsibilities

This field-based position functions as the construction project lead responsible for managing a project team consisting of construction inspectors, office engineers and other support staff, working collectively to ensure all construction project work is performed in accordance with the contract documents.

Primary responsibilities include;

Ensure all project work is performed on schedule, on budget, according to plans and quality standards provided by the contract specifications.

Ensure all work operations adhere to approved work safety plans and environmental permits.

Must be able to work closely with the client authority, design consultants, stakeholders and contractors to mitigate operational impacts and ensure all project needs are met timely and effectively.

Monitor and maintain project CPM schedules and milestones, identify, and mitigate risk.

Evaluate contractor pay requisitions, ensure accuracy of billing, timely process approval of payment.

Prepare Change Orders, evaluate extra work requests, perform engineering cost analysis to support negotiations.

Analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions.

Coordinate with the contractor and stake holders to mitigate scheduling conflicts, and delays.

Lead project progress, coordination, and other incidental meetings.

Ensure the client is informed and kept current on project progress and all project issues.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

Considerable knowledge of civil construction work practices and principles utilized on complex facility, highway and bridge construction projects; skill and ability to analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions; considerable technical skills and understanding of CPM schedules, preparation of engineering and administrative reports; strong leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written.

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field is preferred.

Ten (10) years of civil construction work experience, new commercial building construction or equivalent setting.

Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Must be able to lead and manage CE&I project staff, ensure all aspects of project work are accounted for.

Must have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working on MassPort or MBTA projects

Experience utilizing PMWeb Project Management Information System software

Experience using Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, SharePoint, Compass, and AASHTOWare software

Experience with construction MEP and fire protection systems

ATSSA Traffic Control Technician

Special Requirements:

Candidate shall be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and auto insurance.
