Job description

Canada ICI is seeking a detail-oriented and Analytical Pool Administrator & Credit Analyst to support NHA MBS securitization process, the end-to-end administration of NHA MBS pools and core credit functions.ย 

This role is central to supporting investors' CMHC-insured securitization processes, supporting internal pool administration, and ensuring accurate & timely reporting under CMHC's securitization programs. The successful candidate will also support credit underwriting activities through financial analysis, market research, rent comparables, borrower and property due diligence, and preparation of credit materials.ย ย 

The position requires a strong combination of technical execution, analytical skills, credit judgement, and excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Key responsibilities include facilitating the execution of investors' securitization issuance, ongoing pool administration, and preparing timely reports for investors, CMHC, and custodian. The role also demands strong ability to interpret and analyze financial and operational data effectively.

This position will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, including Canada ICI's Credit Committee, Asset Management Group (AMG), CMHC, Computershare, investors, third-party system providers (e.g., TAO Systems), underwriters, and originators.ย  The individual must be able to work independently, thrive in a fast-paced and highly deadline-driven environment, take initiative, and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must.ย ย 

The Pool Administration & Credit Analyst role is full-time in person at our St. Albert office.ย

Education & Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; Professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA) or active pursuit of such a designation is preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in commercial real estate underwriting, credit adjudication, or portfolio analysis gained through a chartered bank, credit union, institutional lender, or fund manager.ย 
  • Strong computer proficiency, with advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suiteย 
  • Understanding of NHA MBS securitization and associated processes, financial instruments, and CMHC-insured lending is a strong asset but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills and quick learning capability.

PoolAdministrator Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the VP, CSI and team members to assist investors in creating, issuing, and settling new NHA MBS pools utilizing TAO System's MortgageHUB software.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of and adhere to CMHC's NHA MBS and CMB Guidelines and Canada ICI internal procedures and processes.
  • Support new securitization initiatives in collaboration with the VP, CSI and Investors' Capital Markets team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Support internal end-to-end securitization and on-going pool administration process and work collaboratively with Investors' Capital Markets team, including:

oPool creation

oNHA MBS Application (CMHC 2812)

oTransmit mortgages to the Custodian

oPool Cut generation and Profile Extracts (2824)

oDraft and final Information Circulars (2834)

oPool Servicing Agreements (2814)

oSchedule of Subscribers (2830)

oMonthly accounting report (2840)

oTroubleshooting and issue resolution

  • Other duties as assigned

Credit Analyst Responsibilities:ย 

  • Assist with the review and analysis of commercial mortgage opportunities, including CMHC-insured and conventional multifamily, seniors housing, and commercial real estate loans.
  • Review and validate borrower, sponsor, guarantor, and property-level information, including financial statements, rent rolls, appraisals, environmental reports, leases, purchase agreements, and third-party due diligence materials.
  • Review and validate financial analysis and underwriting elements, including loan-to-value, loan-to-cost, debt service coverage, debt yield, net operating income, rent comparable, expense, and valuation analysis.
  • Support the review of credit submissions, confidential investment memorandums, transaction summaries, and internal approval memos under the direction of the VP, CSI and other Credit Committee members.
  • Conduct market research, comparable analysis, and transaction-level due diligence to identify key credit strengths, risks, mitigants, and outstanding conditions.
  • Assist with condition tracking, closing diligence, document review coordination, and follow-up with internal teams, brokers, investors, legal counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Support borrower's portfolio analysis and ad hoc credit reviews by analyzing performance, portfolio level debt service, liquidity, loan to value, and emerging risk items.
  • Maintain well-organized underwriting files, approval records, and analysis templates to ensure accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to process improvements, internal templates, policy documents, research reports, and workflow enhancements related to credit and securitization activities.
