Job description

At KustomScapes & Pools, we transform outdoor spaces into luxury retreats. We are seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented Assistant Store Manager who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, leads by example, and is passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences. Position Overview

As the Assistant Store Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee day-to-day retail operations, drive sales, and maintain an unbeatable store environment. You will serve as a key point of contact for retail customers, assist with water testing and product recommendations, manage inventory, and coach our store team to meet sales goals and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Store Leadership & Operations

  • Support the Store Manager in daily operations, including opening/closing the store and ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Step in as the primary leader on duty when the Store Manager is offsite.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, onboarding, and training team members on product knowledge, POS systems, service scheduling, and customer service standards.

Customer Service & Sales

  • Deliver expert, friendly customer service to homeowners, pool owners, and contractors.
  • Perform computerized pool and spa water testing, accurately diagnosing water chemistry issues and recommending the proper chemical treatments.
  • Guide customers on equipment purchases (pumps, filters, heaters, cleaners, automation), pool accessories, and spa care products.
  • Assist in scheduling service and maintenance calls and communicate this with the customers.
  • Drive sales initiatives and cross-sell products to meet store revenue targets.

Inventory & Merchandising

  • Assist with inventory control, stock replenishment, receiving shipments, and managing cycle counts.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and beautifully merchandised displays, endcaps, and shelves.
  • Ensure stock levels are accurate and products are properly labeled and priced.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience

  • 2+ years of retail sales or customer service experience required (pool industry, garden center, hardware, or home improvement experience preferred).
  • 1+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of pool/spa chemicals, water chemistry, and equipment is a strong plus (willingness to learn is required; training will be provided).
  • Proficiency with Point of Sale (POS) systems, cash handling, and basic computer software.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask, delegate, and stay organized during peak seasonal rushes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the retail floor for long periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., chemical buckets, sand/salt bags, pool equipment).
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and peak seasonal hours.
