Job description

Syensqo is all about chemistry. We're not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet's beauty for the generations to come.

We are looking for:

  • The Polymer Chemist II will support R&I activities focused on raw material qualification, resin process development, and scale-up from laboratory to pre-pilot manufacturing.
  • This role requires a strong understanding of polymer chemistry combined with practical knowledge of chemical processing, reaction engineering, and reactor operation.
  • The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time operating laboratory and pre-pilot scale reaction systems, executing experimental plans, troubleshooting process issues, evaluating raw materials, and supporting scale-up efforts.
  • This position works closely with Research Engineers, Scientists, and Manufacturing teams to develop robust and scalable resin manufacturing processes.

We count on you to:

  • Operate laboratory and pre-pilot scale reactors to support resin development and scale-up activities.

  • Prepare and charge raw materials according to experimental procedures.

  • Monitor and control reaction conditions including temperature, agitation, pressure, vacuum, and feed rates.

  • Execute polymer synthesis and process development experiments.

  • Support scale-up of resin processes from laboratory to pilot-scale manufacturing.

  • Evaluate and qualify new and alternative raw materials.

  • Prepare and submit samples for analytical, physical, and performance testing.

  • Analyze testing results and correlate performance with process conditions and raw material characteristics.

  • Troubleshoot reactor, process, and equipment issues.

  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and technical reports.

  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to support commercialization and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Support safe operation of laboratory and pre-pilot facilities.

You will bring:

    • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related discipline.

    • Minimum 3 years of industrial experience in polymer, resin, coatings, adhesives, composites, or specialty chemical development.

    • Experience operating laboratory or pilot-scale reactors.

    • Knowledge of polymerization reactions and reaction mechanisms.

    • Understanding of heat transfer, mixing, agitation, and scale-up fundamentals.

    • Strong troubleshooting and experimental problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Chemical Engineering degree strongly preferred.

    • Experience supporting pilot plant operations.

    • Familiarity with reactor mechanical systems including agitators, vacuum systems, condensers, pumps, and heat transfer equipment.

    • Experience with raw material qualification programs and supplier evaluations.

    • Knowledge of design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis techniques.

    • Experience operating and troubleshooting jacketed reactors, agitator systems, condensers, vacuum systems, and other pilot-scale process equipment.

    You will get:

    • Competitive salary and benefits package.

    • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $67,000-$77,000 per year.
