Job description

Job Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Chemist to support our laboratory operations in the rubber manufacturing industry. The successful candidate will assist in the formulation, testing, and quality control of rubber compounds and products. This role offers hands-on experience in industrial polymer chemistry and exposure to materials development for applications in molded rubber goods.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development and testing of rubber formulations, including compounding and mixing elastomers, fillers, oils, and curing agents.
  • Conduct physical and chemical tests on raw materials, in-process compounds, and finished rubber products (e.g., tensile strength, hardness, aging, elongation, rheometry).
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as rheometers, Mooney viscometers, tensiometers, and hardness testers.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, test results, and observations in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Support quality control activities by performing routine testing and inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards (OSHA, ISO, Safety)
  • Collaborate with senior chemists and engineers in process improvement and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations when handling chemicals and operating lab equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and data summaries.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (internship or academic lab experience acceptable).
  • Sustainability / Environmental Climate knowledge a plus.
  • Familiarity with rubber compounding or polymer testing is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods and analytical instruments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.);
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Basic understanding of rubber chemistry and vulcanization processes.
  • Experience with standards and testing methods used in the rubber industry
  • Familiarity with thermoplastic elastomers and synthetic rubbers
Work Environment:
  • Laboratory and plant setting within a manufacturing environment.
  • May require standing for extended periods and handling of raw rubber materials and chemicals.
  • Use of PPE and adherence to all safety protocols is mandatory.
