Union Home Mortgage’s L.E.A.D Internship Program’s goal is to provide a fun, interesting, and real-world environment for our interns to Learn about the industry, be Educated by Sr. Leadership and their peers, Achieve their personal goals and Develop their skills and knowledge base. We pride ourselves in providing innovative programs for our interns in order for them to learn and grow they progress through their careers. Some of the programs we offer include: shadowing, mentoring, professional development, group projects and we even take our interns on corporate outings! Our internship program gives students a chance to meet new people, gain more experience, and learn from the best in the business! Our interns are treated like full-time Partners who work 40 hours a week during the 3-month summer program, are compensated, and based out of headquarters in Strongsville, Ohio. 

The Compliance Intern will report to the Compliance Team Lead(s) and will have the opportunity to be a productive member of the Compliance Department. The candidate will learn about the requirements of a Compliance Management Program which is the framework that defines the department and its role and responsibilities. The candidate will also learn Federal and state laws and regulations that impact the mortgage industry. They will gain an understanding of how to operationalize compliance, meaning how to implement compliant processes while balancing the needs of the Sales force and Operations. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Create self-assessments to test for regulatory compliance;  

  •  Monitor live and closed mortgage loans; 

  • Complete various research assignments and projects; 

  • Create and develop training materials; 

  • Assist with reviewing and revising company policies for various departments. 

SKILLS REQUIRED 

  • Candidate must be enthusiastic, a self-starter and have the ability to work in a group or independently. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Strong analytical and research skills. 

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff. 

  • Ability to keep themselves and their assigned tasks organized. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • College student with an Accounting, Finance, Business, Business Management, or Political Science major, or has an interest in mortgage regulatory compliance or risk management. 

  • Junior or Senior Standing
