Job description

Full Time Public Safety Officer

Division: Police/Public Safety Department

Department: Livingstone Campus Police/Public Safety Department

Reports to: Sergeant of Public Safety

Position Summary: Public Safety Officer's uphold and enforce Livingstone College rules and regulations in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct handbook. Enforcing the rules of the college ensures the safety of the faculty, staff, students and college properties. This civilian role works closely with the sworn police officers to maintain a safe college community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The results you will deliver each day that matter most!

  • Respond to emergency calls and report college violations, while conducting routine patrols of the college properties.
  • Investigate minor accidents and other college violations including assaults, burglaries, unbecoming student conduct, etc.
  • Providing safety to the entire campus family. Render any medical aid to those in need and identify safety hazards around and on all college properties.
  • Be on time for duty and prepared to fulfil their public safety duties displaying professionalism and ethics.
  • Parking management and enforcement.
  • Work during inclement weather to ensure the safety of the college family and properties to the best of their ability, while following safety protocols.

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in public safety/police/military related fields.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Strong communication skills a plus.
  • Must Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Successfully complete drug screen and background investigation.
  • Demonstrate excellence in problem solving and de-escalating techniques.
  • Able to adapt to working schedule, times and days.
  • Must work weekends and holidays.
  • Must work rotating shifts as needed.
  • Must work overtime hours as needed.
  • Must be available for on-call or special events.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long period of times.
