The Gwinnett County Police Department is a nationally accredited and rapidly growing police agency located in the Northeastern quadrant of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Department currently has an authorized strength of 783 sworn officers supported by 280 civilian employees with the responsibility of providing law enforcement services to approximately 800,000 residents within an area of 436 square miles.

Applicants will have an opportunity to attend an orientation session, complete the physical fitness assessment, and gather information during a Q&A session. Oral interview boards will be conducted during this event.
Employees are trained to become Police Officers. Applicants must pass a series of tests and interviews prior to selection. Once selected, individuals must complete academy requirements, and if successful, continue to field training assisted by veteran officers (PO Sr. or Corporals). This job requires a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
Salary:
$37,156 - $38,642, with possible incentives up to
$38,270 - $39,801 (includes 3% pay incentive for an Associate's degree)
$39,385 - $40,960 (includes 6% pay incentive for a Bachelor's degree)
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.;
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for Georgia P.O.S.T. certification;
  • Valid Driver's License;
  • Must be 21 years of age, 20 years old at time of application;
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation including criminal, controlled substance, credit, driving, work history, and physical agility testing.

Job Description
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
  • Assists with enforcing County and state laws when deemed necessary to provide a safe environment for the public.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports on crimes, violations and accidents committed within the County.
  • Assists in providing help to crime victims and the general public.
  • Assists in performing security checks of closed businesses and residential areas.
  • Assists in maintaining County car, uniforms, weapons and county property.
  • Attends and testifies in court on behalf of the County.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications
Training and Experience (positions in this class require):
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent education.

Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):
  • Valid Driver's License from state of residency.
  • Must be 21 years of age.

Additional Information
This is the first level of the Police series. Incumbents are trained on the job to become Police Officers. Incumbents must pass a series of tests and interviews prior to selection as candidates.
