A Brief Overview
Under supervision, assists the Emergency & Support Services with taking limited reports, performing administrative duties, and ensuring safe, convenient and efficient operation of terminal front passenger loading and unloading areas by monitoring and directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic and relocating unattended vehicles as per airport security/safety regulations. Observes and reports unattended baggage and other suspicious situations to the proper law enforcement and security personnel. Assists law enforcement and other security personnel during emergency and non-emergency situations at the airport. Observes and reports hazards and unsafe conditions inside and outside of airport terminals. Participate in Emergency & Support Services learning opportunities. Police Cadets will not engage in traffic enforcement duties but will engage in traffic and crowd control under the guidance of, and in conjunction with certified Police Officers and supervisors.
Emergency & Support Services - Police is a twenty-four-hour, seven-day operation. Work is generally performed during an eight-hour shift. An employee may find themselves located in a specific job assignment or on patrol in an Airport vehicle for the duration of the shift. Interaction with the general public, as well as Airport personnel can be expected on a regular basis. This position is part of a 24/7/365 day operation which will include weekends, holidays, and overtime.

What you will do
  • Assists with traffic management in a non-enforcement role as directed by the supervisor or certified Police Officer.
  • Enters data into computer and database systems, Compiles and maintains records, files, and reports. Assist with preparation
    written materials such as reports, memos, and correspondence.
  • Provides assistance to traveling public as needed (e.g., assist with baggage, assist with vehicle location, answer general
    wayfinding questions, contacts roadside services, etc.).
  • Answers phone calls, greets visitors, and directs matters to appropriate personnel.
  • Participates across the public safety division to learn and participate in the work of multiple departments including
    Police, Security, ARC, Compliance, and Credentials.
  • Detects and reports suspicious and unlawful activities to immediate supervisor and/or security staff.
  • Assists in crowd management duties during large events.
  • Supports Police Officers when they are managing traffic.
  • Write non-criminal reports
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of application.
  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency
  • Must have basic computer Skills
  • A Valid Driver's License and a safe, acceptable driving record.

Special Conditions
  • Must pass additional WCAA employment requirements if selected for enrollment in a Police Academy, including a psychological exam.
  • WCAA Airfield Certification (Non-Movement Area) - must pass and maintain the qualifications for operating in the non-movement area.
  • The Cadet position is temporary position limited to a maximum of 12 months, and may be extended at the sole discretion of the Wayne County Airport Authority.
