Position Specific Description
The Radiation Protection Technician supports our Point Beach Nuclear plant in Two Rivers, WI.
Job Overview
The principal duties of the Radiation Protection Technician occupation consist of performing radiation contamination and airborne radiation surveys, analyzing results using appropriate health physics equipment and performing other special analyses as required.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Calibrate and test instruments, including portable and fixed radiation detection equipment, air samplers, flow meters, personnel friskers and portal monitors
  • Collects and records data and maintains files as required by the health physics record keeping system
  • Inputting data to maintain the Radiation Work Permit, Employee Dose tracking and other computerized reports
  • Radiation Protection Technician assists in the training of others under the direction of appropriate supervision, assists in directing plant and outside contractor personnel in radiation control housekeeping, using protective clothing and methods to maintain "as low as reasonably achievable" personnel exposure while working in high radiation areas, and packages
  • Prepares radioactive waste for shipment
  • Radiation Protection Technician must be willing to accept rotational / shift assignments

Required Qualifications
  • Two years of Radiation Protection experience at commercial nuclear power plants and should have one year of related technical training beyond high school in the health physics field or
  • Pass the Technician Selection System (TECH)-Technician test
  • Gain unescorted access to the nuclear plant as required by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Point Beach Nuclear Site
  • Meet all applicable medical requirements
  • One year of related technical training beyond high school in the health field or have year of practical experience in health physics, or six months of Health Physics training/experience at Point Beach Nuclear Plant
