What is a pneumatic tank driver?

Pneumatic tank drivers are professional truck drivers who operate vehicles equipped with specialized pneumatic (air-pressurized) tanks designed to transport dry bulk materials, such as cement, sand, flour, or plastic pellets. Their primary responsibility is to safely load, transport, and unload these materials using pressurized air systems. They must follow all safety regulations, maintain their equipment, and often need to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements. Pneumatic tank drivers typically work for logistics, construction, or manufacturing companies. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a strong focus on safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pneumatic tank driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pneumatic Tank Driver, you need a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with appropriate endorsements, a clean driving record, and experience handling bulk materials. Familiarity with pneumatic tank trailers, loading/unloading systems, and ELD (Electronic Logging Device) compliance is typically required. Attention to detail, good communication, and strong problem-solving skills help drivers ensure safe and efficient deliveries. These skills are crucial for maintaining safety standards, meeting delivery schedules, and preventing costly errors during bulk material transport.

What is the difference between Pneumatic Tank Driver vs Tanker Truck Driver?

AspectPneumatic Tank DriverTanker Truck Driver

Industry UsageConstruction, agriculture, industrial materialsOil, chemicals, fuel, liquids

Both Pneumatic Tank Drivers and Tanker Truck Drivers require CDL licenses and may need Hazmat endorsements. Pneumatic Tank Drivers specialize in dry bulk materials using pneumatic systems, while Tanker Truck Drivers focus on transporting liquids or gases. Their work environments and industry applications differ, but their certifications and licensing requirements are similar.

What are the typical challenges faced by pneumatic tank drivers on the job, and how can they be managed?

Pneumatic Tank Drivers often encounter challenges such as dealing with varied weather conditions, maintaining safety protocols during loading and unloading, and managing schedules that may require long hours or overnight hauls. Staying attentive to safety procedures is crucial, especially when handling pressurized materials. Building good communication with dispatchers and customers can help streamline deliveries and address any unforeseen issues promptly. Drivers who prioritize ongoing training and equipment maintenance tend to navigate these challenges more effectively.

Job description

Driver Recruiter
Mega Logistics | Auburndale, FL
Location: Auburndale, FL (On-site)
Department: Operations
Reports To: Tommy Simpson, VP of Operations
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
About Us
Mega Logistics is a growing Florida-based trucking and logistics company serving the construction industry, hauling both raw cementitious materials and finished construction products. Our fleet operations span pneumatic tankers, dry and liquid bulk, flatbeds, and heavy haul. We run on three core values: Be Bold. Take Ownership. Win or Learn.
Position Summary
The Driver Recruiter owns the full-cycle recruitment of CDL-A owner-operators and company drivers across our growing fleet operations. This is a high-impact, high-volume recruiting role for someone who knows the trucking industry, understands what drivers care about, and can build a pipeline that keeps trucks moving. You’ll be the first voice a driver hears from our company — and the person who makes sure the right drivers get seated quickly and compliantly.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing amp; Pipeline Development
  • Build and maintain a steady pipeline of qualified CDL-A owner-operators and company drivers across multiple equipment types (pneumatic tanker, dry/liquid bulk, flatbed, heavy haul)
  • Source candidates through job boards, driver-focused platforms, social media, referral programs, truck stops, industry events, and direct outreach
  • Develop and manage driver referral and recruiting marketing campaigns in partnership with leadership
Full-Cycle Recruiting
  • Conduct phone screens and qualification interviews; assess experience, endorsements, safety history, and fit
  • Guide candidates through the application process in our driver applicant tracking system (Tenstreet)
  • Coordinate with Safety on background checks, MVRs, PSP reports, drug amp; alcohol screening, and DOT Clearinghouse queries
  • Manage orientation scheduling and ensure a smooth handoff to onboarding, dispatch, and safety teams
Compliance amp; Qualification
  • Ensure all recruits meet FMCSA driver qualification requirements (CDL-A, medical certification, endorsements such as tanker/hazmat where required)
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready recruiting records and candidate documentation
  • Stay current on DOT/FMCSA hiring regulations and industry hiring trends
Retention amp; Relationship Building
  • Serve as a point of contact for new drivers and contractors during their first 90 days
  • Gather feedback from drivers and dispatch to continuously improve the recruiting and onboarding experience
  • Track and report key recruiting metrics: time-to-seat, cost-per-hire, pipeline health, turnover, and source effectiveness
Qualifications
Required
  • 2+ years of driver recruiting experience in trucking, transportation, or logistics
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT driver qualification requirements
  • Experience recruiting both owner-operators (independent contractors) and company drivers, or strong familiarity with the differences between the two models
  • Strong phone presence, persistence, and follow-through in a high-volume environment
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems and Microsoft 365
Preferred
  • Experience with Tenstreet
  • Experience recruiting tanker, bulk, flatbed, or heavy-haul drivers
  • Familiarity with the construction materials or building products freight market
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
What Success Looks Like
  • Trucks don’t sit empty: qualified drivers and owner-operators are seated quickly without compromising safety or compliance standards
  • A consistent, measurable pipeline replaces reactive, scramble-mode hiring
  • Drivers describe their recruiting experience as honest, fast, and professional
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary [+ performance incentive — confirm structure]
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Voluntary benefits including GAP, AFLAC, and voluntary life
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • 401K with employer match
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • A growing company where your work is visible and your ideas are heard
Mega Logistics is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
