Division Project Management Office and Commercialization Leader

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

The person hired for the position of Division PMO and Commercialization Leader will be responsible for leading and managing the Division's PMO, which consists of several, full time Project Managers (PM's) that lead complex, high priority commercialization programs.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and manage the Division Project Management Office (PMO), including a team of full-time Project Managers responsible for complex, high-priority commercialization programs.
  • Drive commercialization excellence across the division by championing step-change improvements to processes, tools, and ways of working that increase business agility, execution speed, and overall commercialization impact across business units and geographies.
  • Partner with the PSD NPI Process Leader to ensure alignment with corporate New Product Introduction (NPI) expectations, standards, and required use of 3M Grow for commercialization documentation.
  • Oversee division-wide portfolio governance, including the global prioritization process and Resource Prioritization Management (RPM), to ensure projects are prioritized effectively and resources are deployed to the highest-value NPI and CMP opportunities.
  • Lead capability building for the PMO and broader organization through training, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen commercialization discipline and project execution.
  • Own the tracking, reporting, and performance management of key NPI dashboard metrics, using data and insights to identify risks, improve decision-making, and drive accountability.
  • Lead the annual NPI sales forecasting process and manage forecast updates throughout the year in partnership with business, commercial, and functional stakeholders.
  • Support the annual strategic planning process in partnership with the Lab Operating Committee (LOC), ensuring portfolio priorities and commercialization plans align with division strategy.
  • Serve as a key member of the Lab Operating Committee (LOC), contributing to strategic, operational, and portfolio decisions for the division.
  • Serve as a critical division representative during internal and external audits, including ISO, NIOSH, and other global regulatory agency reviews, ensuring commercialization and laboratory processes are audit-ready and well-documented.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead process improvement opportunities across NPI, portfolio prioritization, resource management, and other laboratory and commercialization-related processes.
  • Provide portfolio-level risk assessment and escalation to leadership
  • Coach and develop Project Managers through performance management, mentoring, and talent development including both direct PM reports and non-reports who are leading NPI projects
  • Monitor commercialization pipeline health and recommend portfolio shifts based on strategic priorities

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Marketing, Science or Engineering from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Minimum of five (5) years commercialization leadership experience, including phase gate process
  • Minimum of five (5) years combined supervisory and/or management experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience designing and improving commercialization processes and associated systems for a large, global business
  • Experience maximizing structure, process and resources (including people) to optimize results
  • Significant Commercialization leadership within ISO-certified or highly regulated business.
  • Global laboratory management experience with responsibilities to: (a) champion a BU's (business unit's) commercialization and NPI processes; (b) manage the BUs NPI pipeline for maximum productivity and speed; and (c) improve the division's Project Management capabilities
  • Global business management leadership with experience managing (a) a cross-functional team and (b) complex issues across functional responsibilities and driving resolution
  • Experience in both technical and business management
  • Experience in Scrum/Agile implementation and practice, particularly for non-software applications
  • Experience in all aspects of commercialization, from pre-Idea through Post-Launch
  • Significant International 3M experience and understanding of the 3M matrix
  • Experience managing large budgets requiring prioritization and oversight

Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international
