What is a PM&R physician?

A PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) physician, also known as a physiatrist, specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect movement, function, and quality of life. They manage a wide range of issues, including spinal cord injuries, strokes, musculoskeletal disorders, and chronic pain. Their goal is to enhance a patient’s physical abilities through non-surgical treatments like therapy, medications, and assistive devices. Physiatrists often work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or private practices, collaborating with therapists and other medical professionals.
